Hello jeepers.... listen I just bought a jeep and im looking for a lil info. It is a 08 Wrangler X. My question is.... is it a TJ, TJ or what? And what are the significance of the letters?

It's a JK my jeepin' brothaa. I have an 09 X.
Easiest and quickest way make the distinction between the 2 models is to look at the turn signal lights. On TJs look for the square ts lights on the front of the fenders and also the side turn signal lights look kind of like an upside down check mark. Our JKs have the round signal lights below the headlights and small round ones on the side of the fenders. Oh and from what I've read, there's really no rhyme or reason to the designations of YJ, TJ, JK. Some one that was obviously a die hard TJ owner once wrote that JK stood for "J'grocery Karte".
That said.....Welcome to the forum!

Thanks guys.... another question. This jeep has a winch on it that is almost completely encloses in the bumper. Can't see a model number or any number. The dealer did not have the remote and I need one. How do I know what remote to buy? The connection is round 5 pin. Will any round 5 pin remote work? And what are your thots on wireless remote?

Welcome to the forum and Jeeps! You are welcome to look at this link I think it will put to rest any questions you have about the letter designations.

http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/misc/models.html

As for the winch you're going to have to find the stamp or plate at least to identify the manufacturer then pictures for model after that it's a simple matter of ebay.

What about a wireless remote? Can't I just wire the sensor in and use it? Any pros/cons on wireless?
