new here future jeep owner

Hi all,
As my name implies I am an FJ40 fan. But am determined to convert my love to the Jeep due to parts availability and expense of repair now. I've been busy educating myself (it's exhaustive) on Jeeps, specifically the CJ, TJ, CY and rubicon. I've learned (unless I'm wrong) that getting an older model CJ would have the same issues that owning an FJ would...getting parts and repair costs.

I originally had my heart set on an old CJ 5,or maybe a 7, but then after seeing the prices! got enamoured with the idea of a TJ and I need to understand more about what year models to consider...

So now I'm considering a Wrangler, probably late 80's, early 90's model (?). I'm on a very tight budget and looking to spend under 10k and have no fear of a jeep with 100k miles. Older is fine with me. I'm not looking for super comfort, I understand what I'm getting myself into with a Jeep. I'm a tough outdoorsy girl, but don't want a ride that's going to beat me up too bad on the highway.

This will be my daily driver AND my fun beach toy. I live on Padre Island, TX. and need a 4x4 to drive down to Big Shell. I'm looking for a jeep that's pretty stock and nothing fancy. Tires appropriate for sand would be necessary, manual transmission, cloth seats, 4.0L, I6 and A/C is all I must have. I won't be making any serious modifications, possibly a few minor tweeks over time.

I'm here for advice about which models I should consider for my needs.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give a girl newbie!

The years you are talking about would be a Wrangler YJ (the one with the square headlights). If you are on a tight budget, the YJ, might do you well. Make sure you check for rust and loose linkages.

In the mean time, I'd like to say . . .

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you! I meant to say I have looked at YJ, not CY! Duh. I guess you knew what I meant.
