New Jeep Guy-maybe

Hey everyone....I am seriously entertaining purchasing a used 2002 wrangler sport w/ 120k as a second "fun" car. Vehicle is a 6cyl manual and comes with a hard top. Would anyone be kind enough to offer advice as to what to look for as far as "problem" spots or issues I should be aware of? What would be a fair price for this car considering it might be in good condition.

Run the vin#, it will tell a lot about the condition beyond the detailing. The others here are better with the other important points. Good luck.

I bought mine this spring after much searching for a good one in my price range. There was lots of easily fixed little stuff wrong with it but nothing major, so I thought. Turned out what seemed to be a loud muffler or pipe was actually a cracked exhaust manifold. That was expensive to replace at a shop and I didn't have the time to do it myself.

One bit of advice I think was useful for me was to sign up for a month of unlimited VIN checks with Autocheck. It cost about the same as what Carfax charges for 3 lookups. It was very enlightening to see details on some of the Jeeps I was considering and wound up not buying because of the info received. There is a lot of deception out there. Jeeps that looked very new sometimes had rebuilt titles or odometer discrepancies that drove me away.

Been very happy with my Wrangler since I got over the initial "hump" of expenses and gained more confidence in it. Took it to Silver Lake Michigan this summer and had a blast. It's also a second "fun" vehicle for me and it has really delivered.

Very sound advice.....because it's exactly the way I have bought my last two Jeeps. Autocheck coupled with Autotrader and Cargurus. Whether you're buying it for a "fun" vehicle or a serious "fun" vehicle. Took some weeks but have been very happy with the purchases. Did I mention the last one was 536 miles away? It may not be on your corner lot....could be. One suggestion I have is to let these guys see the Jeep and the price, you will learn a lot. Not from me, but these guys have a knack for seeing problems from a pic and weigh in on price that could save you some money. Good luck.
