new jeep owner

I just purchased a 2012 wrangler unlimited in cosmos blue. I have been saving for 10 years to get a jeep and the wait is finally over. I have a question about wheels and tires. I do not want to lift it yet and want my tires to stick out from the flares a few inches. I know no one likes chrome but I'm leaning that way. Any ideas on 17" rims and what size or kind of tire I can put on that is not extremely noisy. it is a daily driver. Thanks in advance for the help. I'm also considering black or machined wheels as well.

Congratulations on your purchase.
Ten years is a long time to save, I'll bet you're a happy camper!

FWIW, in some states they are pretty sticky about tires being outside the flares. Can't see where you're from, but you may want to look into it before making this decision. No sense spending good mod money on a ticket.

You might want to consider just using some wheel spacers on what you have until you figure out where you're going with your mods. I don't know a darn thing about street tires so someone else will have to advise you there but if you're looking for a tire that it good on both street and trail consider either the Dick Cepek Mud Country (I run the Cepeks) and the Goodyear with Kevlar. Both are pricey, but great all around tires. Neither are terribly noisy either.

You can achieve the look you're after with proper wheel spacing. I would suggest talking to the folks you're planning to purchase from and see what they have to say. The folks at Rough Country have about the best price out there on the Cepeks and can advise you on how to achieve your more aggressive stance by way of wheel spacing and tire width.

Happy trails!

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of good information on this forum that can help you. I am running 285/65R18 tires on my '03 Rubicon and they stick out a couuple of inches past the fender flares. I am running Nitto Trail Grapplers for use in sandy and muddy conditions on my property with some highway and street use. Would probably recommend the Terra Grapplers for more of a daily driver use with some off road capability.

There are several good brands out there that will fit your need. You can ask about ones you like on this forum and get a response from people who run them. Good luck.

Yeah I'm sorry I haven't set all my stuff up yet. I live in tennessee. I didn't want them sticking out horribly bad but just an inch or 2. Want it to look rugged in a way I guess. Thanks for the info. My big concern was not wanting to rub so didn't know what size to get.
