Talking New Jeeper looking for advice on a winch.

Hi All, I am considering what kind and size winch to buy. I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with a 4" spring lift and 33" all terrains. I am also considering fabricating a stinger front bumper. How many lbs do I need. I am thinking bigger is better and that I should get a 12,000 lb warn or smitty and have even considered badlands from harbor freight. What is the most common winch for my jeep? I plan to get up to the running boards in muddy water but might bite off more then I can chew...

Most often you'll see 8000 and 9500's. I believe the general rule is a winch that will pull ~2.5x your jeep's weight.

Check out Mile marker also.. i had a P8000 on my first jeep great bang for the buck... now i have a Warn 9500i and it is clearly superior but i didnt by it, mile marker was like 399. warn was like 1200. both will get the job done just think of how many times you will need it and for what purposes? ex. mud holes or getting pulled over rocks ?
