Hey y'all, im Joe work as a c-130 flying crew chief in cheyenne, wy. currently deployed at the moment. ive been watching and reading these forums since we've started this tour. im looking to buy my first jeep when i get home, been back and forth between TJ's and YJ's. no offence against tjs but i think i have found a beautiful 95 YJ sahara with 130000 miles under 6500 near cheyenne, so hopefully its there when i get back, ive been talking with the gentleman about his rig and it seems like a dream come true. ive bought trucks before, and have decent mechanical skills (being a crew chief an all) but never have owned a jeep, i know i know its an outrage that im just now deciding to do this. but that being said with me being novice on jeeps. what are some tips and tricks while looking and test driving a private sellers baby. i know the basics, i need 4.0, it has a SOA RE lift, 35's, and new SYE with Tom woods shaft. dont know if it has lockers yet. but any info i can get, will me much appreciated. currently i have a 92 chevy k1500 250xxx miles, shes getting old and tired. she needs a break unfortunatly
Welcome and thanks for everything you have done for our country! Between the two I'm partial to TJs but that's a biased opinion since those are my initials. HAHA. In all honesty, you can't go wrong with either model. They will get you places others only dream about.
New update.. just found out the YJ im interested has a 2.5 in it... most all the reviews ive read on here from people that have the 2.5 say its junk, between it just crapping the bed, to throwing rods.. please help, is it worth it or should i just spend the extra money/ time finding a wrangler with the infamous 4.0?
Welcome to the forum and THANK you for your service. The older YJs can be challenging at times but there is plenty here on the forum if you should choose a real classic the only Jeeps with square headlights.
