Hi to everyone. I just bought my first jeep. I have been using your forum alot in the last 4 days to figure stuff out. I'm not new to mechanics or offroading but am a wrangler virgin. I have built a couple cool (in my eyes) trucks and am excited to get going on the jeep. My last build was a 2000 Chevy with 11" lift on 35s. It was a great mud truck but a little big in the woods and worthless for towing. I sold that to buy a tow vehicle for my quads/RZRs. I picked up a '05 cummins QC LB. Have done slight mods (NO LIFT) but am waiting on money to do an auto to manual swap. Right now I have stacked chips running on lowest settings because tranny cant handle it for very long until it starts heating really bad.
But enough about my other crap on to what everybody really cares about. JEEPS. I just picked up a *92* YJ. 4.0L 5 spd. It has had alot of work done on it. Some questionable and I'm trying to sort it all out. The PO told me it has 3" body lift (I'm aware there are a lot of people on here that don't like that but for now I'm going to leave it). He says the motor was out of a '95 YJ and the transfer case is out of a '98. I have found that the shackles are 6.5" from bolt to bolt which from what I have read is about a 1.25" lift.
question #1 Can anybody tell me why he would of used the '98 transfer case? He said it was special but didn't say why.
Question #2 My tach wil go up to 3-4K when not in gear and feathered. but when going down the road and really winding it out it only goes up to 1500 rpm. I know the motor is above that but it just always reads between 600 and 1500 when driving. Any ideas?
If you think I would get better response for question #2 in the technical forums I could repost over there.
Again its nice to meet everyone and I am looking foward to getting and providing help on the forum.
