Question New Member, New Jeep, Questions.

Hi All,
New Jeep owner here. Just purchased a 2011 Unlimited Sport 2 weeks ago. Tan, Dual-top. I still get hard every time I drive it, but that's a different thread.

I have a couple of questions. I'm coming from a full time AWD vehicle (2009 Forester) and thought I had a good grasp on the difference between AWD and when I should use 4H and 4L vs 2. Today it was pissing out pretty bad on my way to work, and I wanted to pop my 4wd cherry so I popped it into 4H on 128(low speed), then cruised to work about 15 more miles doing about 55mph. I had no issues whatsoever and my Jeep absolutely stuck to the road. When I got off the highway I left it in 4H for about another mile until I pulled into my work parking lot. Still no issues until I went to take a tight turn into a parking spot when everything jammed up. I immediately put it back in 2, put it in reverse for 20 feet and when I felt it 'free up' I took it for a small lap around the parking lot. It seemed OK afterwards, but did I cause any issues I should be concerned with?

I did a lot of reading online and read mixed reviews about using 4H on pavement in the rain, so I figured the best way to figure it out was to try it. Now I'm concerned that I should not have done it or may have caused damage.

Along the same lines, where around the Boston area can I go off-roading and have some real fun? I'm in the south shore area and would also be interested in joining up with fellow Jeepers.

Looking forward to all your responses,

Welcome to the Forum

You most likely have caused no damage, but it is never a good idea to run 4H or 4Lo on the road unless you are driving in deep snow. The binding you felt is normal.
