New minus the Jeep.

I've been a die hard Jeep fan for about 10yrs now (I'm 28).

I'm still looking for my first one and have a few questions.

I've been in and around a lot of Jeeps. A lot of my buddies I was and am stationed with have them. There are a lot of opinions out there on what to get.

For starters I think I want a 97 and up. 6 cyl and fighting between manual and auto.

Reasons: I've heard the 97 up are better due to the swap from leaf to springs(Ride quality, off road capabilities etc.) Any truth and your pros/cons.

I like the (as said in previous post) FULL METAL DASH, but prefer the look of the newer Jeep.

6CYL 4CYL debate?
AUTO / Manual debate?

Any hints tips, 2 cents are all accepted. Feed me your Jeep knowledge.

And (some may enjoy this) I'm trying to trade out of my 2004 Honda Civic EX sedan 35mpg for what I hear may only get me 15mpg if I'm lucky.

But my doors and top will be off, Civics look worse dirty, Jeeps Better, and I've never waived at another Civic.

Thanks for having me guys.

Eric

If it were me I would prefer the 6cyl with the manual trans ... but that is just my thought. As far as the year model i've only ever owned a tj so I would be lieing if I told you one was better than the other.

Welcome and good luck in your search. The best thing is you'll find happy Wrangler owners with 4cyl, 6cyl, auto, stick, TJ, LJ, JK, YJ, CJ. Bottomline it's a Jeep, so you can't go wrong...

Welcome to the forum. I personally own a '97 TJ with a 6 and manual. And I wouldn't go any other way. You have to get what your the most comfortable with though.

Welcome to the Forum. Like Whitebomber said, We love our Jeeps, mine is an 4.0 Auto and it's great. A lot will depend on what you want to do with it. Are you looking for a daily driver, a lot of highway time or are you more interested in off roading? There are a lot of factors involved. Like I have told others who were in your same position... There is one out there with your name on it and you will find it. Happy hunting

Welcome to WF. The 6 cylinder is the way to go. The auto vs. manual debate will never end.

Auto or Manual doesn't matter as long as you like driving what ever you pick. I like my Auto tho!

If you plan on wheeling rocks, go with auto.

Thanks for all the "Welcomes" and advice.

It's time to start putting a few $$ here and there away. Might go drive a 4cyl just to see, and while I'm there might as well drive the 6cyl. Can't wait to hear the salesman talk out of his ass and try to get me to buy on today...hahaha.

Welcome

I would go with the 6 and manual. I have a 94 YJ that took me forever to find. I traded in a 92' Toyota 4x4 for my jeep. And Jeeps look way better dirty. And I can honestly say....I've never waived at a Toyota Truck owner either.

Thanks for Serving and keeping us safe
