Hello all - great forum you have here, thank you.
I purchased a well used 78 CJ7 in high school, "Jenny" was her name... had her for nearly 20 years but eventually she was spending more time in the garage than outdoors so I sold her to a good home where she could be exercised a bit more. But I've never lost a place in my heart for a Jeep. So I'm back at the table again, looking over TJs and JKs to see which may find it's way back into my heart again.
Had a funny experience shopping for new JKs the other day. We had a little more than the usual rain her in Seattle and all of the hard tops I looked at had fully saturated carpets and wet hard tops and windshields (on the inside...) the dealer said it was just common condensation due to the cold nights but i think not... clearly they were all leaking just sitting on the lot awaiting buyers. One even had 2-3 inches of standing water in the foot wells! At least the dealer did say this was not normal.
I know Jeeps leak, Jenny had an air vent or something under the steering column and used to hit me with a cup or two of water down my shins when I would hit the brakes the first time out or as snow melted into the grate on the hood. I guess if it were a used TJ I'd have more tolerance than a brand new JK off the lot.
Having had the traditional bob tail Jeep for so long I find it hard to accept the lines of the unlimited TJs or 4 door JKs. Just not the same somehow, performance and benefits aside. That said married with a child it does make more sense to get the more family friendly option.
I'm enjoying reading the threads here, helps in the decision making to be sure.
