New to Forum

Just thought I'd introduce myself. Was out 4 wheeling in my Dodge Ram 2500 diesel shortbed when a group of jeeps went by and there was no way to stay with them! Tuned into their CB channel and listened. Seemed like a lot of fun. Wife decides she wants a new vehicle and buys a 2004 wrangler. She drives it two years and gets a more fuel efficient car and I inherit the jeep. Fell in love with it but discovered two flaws, which I am sure you all know about, No highway power and terrible gas mileage. Decided to research this and see what was out there and came across this forum. Beyond that I used to race motorcycles and still ride my Red Hyabusa on the street. I also have a Honda XR650L which gets me into some pretty obscure places. I also like to skate, both quads and inlines. I like the inlines for distance outside and will clip of 15-20 miles at a time...just fun! I use the quads indoors and like to race and generally mess around with them. I work as a counselor for troubled teenagers in a High School and love it. I have owned jeeps in the past, 94 Wrangler and a 93 Cherokee but did little with either one of them. Seemed like the 94 Wrangler had more power than the 04 but there is a lot of time between them. Hope you don't find this too boring but what you see is what you get.

Thanx for the welcome all. I have the 4L 6 for a motor. Have put a K&N air filter in it, 5sp, and is pretty stock. I need to open up the motor and I am not sure I will lift it as it is a daily driver.

Welcome to WF! lots of the Jeepers here have lifts and drive daily. I never have lifted mine, so you won't be the lone ranger if you stay closer to the ground.

Anyway, glad you're here.

Welcome, warpig. Glad you found this site, and hope you stick around. One thing you might want to check is the gear ratio you have in your diffs. Some of the basic models came with 3.07 gears, which is fine for open road, but does not give you any power on take off, or keep your speed on uphill grades. If you are wanting a quicker Jeep, that is something to check. If you are staying stock, I would not worry about it if you have the 3.73 gears. Going to 4.10's would only be a noticeable change if you were running the 3.07's. It would also help tremendously if you ever decide to wheel it off road.

You are absolutely right. I need to check the ratio and see what it rides on. I think they are 3.73. I know Dodge puts all that info in the hood area and on the door jam. I will check it and see. I may have the original MSRP Sheet that may have all that stuff. I have been thinking about getting a reprogramer for the fuel injection. I know on the trucks that is relatively cheap horsepower. It does not need much but if I put a trailer on the back to haul the dirt bike to a launch point the ponies would be nice! The trailer would also allow me to get a tent and equipment in as well + Chicken Killer Wine which is a local, but potent, beer!

Welcome!

Welcome, Warpig, to the site. Glad to have you along with all of us Jeep "junkies." It certainly is an addiction. No wonder the bumper sticker says, "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand." Again, welsome aboard.
