New to Forum and Jeep Life

Hello all I'm Jeff and i am stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. I am looking into getting a Jeep only problem is that I know nothing about one. My budget for a Jeep is around $7,000. I am wanting to know whats the best Jeep to look for and exactly what is high miles for a Jeep? How many miles is a Jeep good for? I mean i know like Toyota as a good 250K mile life and so forth but i dont know about a Jeep. So with al this basically what is the difference in Jeeps and the best one to go for? (YJ, CJ, Wrangler etc..)

Thanks

Hello and welcome.I am kind of new to all this myself but my opinion would be a Wrangler TJ around 97-99 for that money. For that money I would look for 97-98 with less than 110,000 miles.Maybe someone with more Jeep experiance will come back to ya but that is my 2 cents.

Will it be your daily driver or weekend toy? You want a stocker or something that has some build to it already? Welcome to the site

It depends on what you want to do with it. All of them has their good points and bad, depends on who you ask what those are. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome!

Welcome to the best Jeep Wrangler Forum ever created! Regarding your budget and what you're looking for, take some time. You'll find some good buys if you watch the newspaper od Trader ads closely. It will probably be found in the individual ads and definitely not a dealer's ad. It'll happen! Again, welcome!

for around 7grand you would be looking at early 97-99 TJ's then YJ's or CJ's. Anything newer then those years and then you might wana question why they are that cheap.

What are you looking for a daily driver or weekend warrior?

if you like the mud, go for a '91-'95 YJ. If you like the rocks, your best bet is a TJ because of the coil springs.

If you don't mind the hassle of carbs and less than desirable gas mileage, you can go for a CJ or an early (87-90) YJ. The leaf springs are better in mud, but thats just my opinion.

Welcome

Way too much $$$...

Look for a 6cyl as the 4cyl won't make it any easier on gas, and the 6cyls last longer.

That is a nice looking YJ but a 4cyl with 33's will not like highway speeds. If it is a rust free southern jeep that is a somewhat descent price with those mods and including that Ford 8.8 extra axle.
