new to jeep 94 4.0L manual, NJ

Hey,

I'm not new to vehicle forums but new to this one. Wanted to properly say hi. I just picked up 1994 Sahara 4.0L manual. I don't know a ton about jeeps but I do expect to learn. I grabbed it for its 4x4 capabilities, my main car is a 2004 Mustang, it's not so good in bad weather (unless I want to go in circles). It seems to be lifted around 4" with 32" tires. Got a friend with a 95 that's going to stop by tomorrow so we can go over what I need to do to get it on the road.

The Jeep hasn't been driven I think for about 2 years. It seems very mechanically sound yet rusty. I will take some pictures later... I have rust forming from it sitting, that's my main concern. How should I tackle this? How much rust is too much when dealing with the underbody? How do you guys clean that up? The exterior panels have rust or oxidation but no holes. I just would like to clean up the rust on the underside for starters.

I'll be searching topics and reading all night, I'm sure.

here's an update, with pictures.
its got 121k miles, the brake lines and a power steering hose need to replaced. I got it for $2k. I should have it on the road by the weekend. I'll take more pictures then.

Jeep at it's dirtiest.

today I brushed rust off and went nuts with some cans of rustoleum. Only the muffler and rear bumper are rusted thru. Rest is solid.
