New to Jeeps

I'm starting to research my next car and am deciding between a Jeep, Truck, or another car. I figured I would come to this forum and start looking at my options.

The first things I am out to look for are what fits my budget, probably a YJ or TY. I will be working with, initially, about $10,000. I will also be looking to see if I want to find a nice condition unmodified for close to that price, or a cheaper one I can put a few thousand in to fix up. I love the idea of diesels, especially being swapped into a jeep. But hearing from my more experienced friend, those are bad for mudding due to turbo lag and expense. So another thing I am going to look up is what will be a good starting setup for getting into the mudding Jeep world. I also would like to stick with a manual. Again I love turbos, but if that's out of the question for this type of build that is fine. This will also be a daily driver, but I do have a pos backup in case it needs downtime. I have about 2-4 months of time for research before I buy, so I'm hoping to learn a lot in that time.

Anyway I am excited to be new to this forum!
