New user potential buyer

Hi everyone, I got a million questions as I know NOTHING about Jeeps at all.
I have a highly modded Subaru WRX right now and im tired of messing with it, I want something fun but not neccesarily too fast or something that im going to want to mod up to go faster, ive done the 'fast car thing' now I just want fun and something I can enjoy driving and being out and about in. Im not interested in off roading really.

Of all the convertible cars I can think of and afford, a jeep would be nice I think.

I'll ask Qs in other forums, see you around

Well, if a convertible is the only reason you want a jeep, then I would look at other vehicles.

For one thing, you are going to want to add mods to your jeep. It's just a way of life, and since you have already gotten your hands dirty on another vehicle, it is only natural that you will want to do this again.

If you have no interest in off roading, why a 4x4? The gas mileage alone should sway your decision.

Jeeps are not something to get unless it is what your really really want. They ride rough, poor mpg, and you will want to spend every dime on it.

God I love my Jeep.

frankly, they look neat and seem like they would give you that kind of "free" feeling you can only get from a bike.
A regular convertible is nice but a jeep seems like more fun.

I currently get 18mpg in my Subaru on the performance ECU map so im not worried about mpg lol
I might wanna buy some bling for it but im not interested in upgrading the suspension or making it go faster.

18 MPG Oh how nice that would be. I could buy stuff for the Jeep if I was getting 18 mpg.

Ha Ha, Yeah, you say that now. After you buy your jeep and start driving it, you will sing a different tune. You won't have to worry about making it go faster, though. Can't be done.

Welcome to the addiction.

Hi, Smeghead. Welcome to WF.
Yes, a wrangler with the top off is a lot of fun to drive. Of course, it's always a lot of fun to drive, even with the top on. Good luck finding your jeep.

BTW, Red Dwarf is one of my favorite shows.

Hey Smeghead - I'm a big scoob fan, wanna trade?!

But are you looking at the new 2007+ Wranglers or an older one?

You say that now, but you'll get the itch for bigger tires and wheels, and bumpers... you'll understand once you get one. JUst like the scoob, theres always something that you can add, performance or not

you can have this piece of crap im beginning to hate it.
Still not sure whats wrong with it yet. Its making so much power its blowing different pieces of the cooling system, and maybe now a head gasket. Tuning on the edge is stressful I dont need it.

Time for something more sedate but still fun

having head probs you must be making more than 280hp on the 2.0... once you damage something like that you need to sell the car, no thanks

Good luck with your jeep search... again, you know what year you are looking at?

Wranglers are slow, bad on mileage, and have a ride that'll make you think you have no suspension. They'll also make you empty your bank account in mods. (Just Empty Every Pocket) Seriously tho, if you have to ask if a Jeep is for you, then it's not. Oh, and slow? You'll get beat off the line by a Focus. That being said, my TJ is the best vehicle I've ever owned. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

330hp to the crank
I dont really care about the year, it just has to be affordable and lowest miles possible.
My car is a rough ride already, i have to take speed bumps at half speed and I get about 9mpg at the track.

It all swings on exactly what my problem is. But starting to think about getting a jeep makes me think at LEAST one day I will. Im kinda done with going fast i just want something to enjoy the world around me in.

WEll if you can get $10k+ for the WRX, which I'm sure you can, You'll be able to pick up a really nice TJ(97-06) that might already have some decent mods done to it, or you can save some coin and look for a stocker to mod the way you want. All up to you bud - Good luck in the search!

Welcome Smeg! I know where you are coming from, I had a 68 Dodge coronet big block 383 that did 12 sec in 1/4 mi, street legal thru the exhaust with rocks for tires, drove it to the track and back home.
Owning a Jeep is like a whole differant world, you will go thru speed withdrawls but it also makes you slow down and enjoy the ride, on road as well as off.

Scotty - yeah, im done going fast. Theres no point in even trying in a Jeep so it wouldnt bother me. Right now, im angry if it isnt as fast as it could be at any time. Always tweaking and tuning it, im done with it.

Ive seen a WRX at the "park" around here. Dude pretty much destroyed it, but he was an idiot and had street tires.

Ive got a few friends that made them pavement rockets, pretty good at that

Something you will love is that you can actually fit under a wrangler while you cant even touch your exhaust under your WRX without lifting it. I used to have a Miata.. i was going to install a catback system.. i couldnt even touch the screws since it was just couple of inches tall, 3-4" at the side skirts and dropped a bit as it went under the car. Few days ago i worked a bit on my exhaust on my wrangler.. man i fit under there and i have so much space i can possibly eat dinner there (no lift at all)

Glad you found us gotta warn you if you think getting a wrangler will save you money.. think again

yet to have it leak tested but it seems like its a head gasket.
I had a boost solenoid problem a while back and it boosted to 26psi instead of holding at 19, im sure thats when I blew my head gasket

I think im gonna fix, see how I feel then, then maybe get rid of it
Might go test drive a Wrangler just for sheets n giggles

oh, and yeah I used to be able to fit under my bar without jacks/ramps but not since I dropped it. it would be great to fit EASILY under there.

Remember me?
So the WRX is all fixed up and........I still wanna sell it lol

I like the look of the Sahara/Columbia editions so thats what im looking at.
I definately want 4*4, manual, sahara, Hard+soft top included, below 50k, under $16,000
Prefered: Bigger tires, speaker bar, nicer stereo, 4.0 engine.
Im sorry but I may be asking alot more Qs over the next few weeks.
What do you think of this:

1: All TJ's are 4x4
2: Might be hard to find any TJ(unless its a 05-06) with less than 50k for under $16k

The one you have in the link looks like a nice one. That front bumper is ~$1000 not including the winch. I'd definitely go check it out. Also, if you plan on lifting it or whatever, be sure to look at the rear axle to see if its a D44(it will have a metal fill plug in it).

Good luck!

man If i was ready to buy I would for sure go see this one, looks awesome.
i gotta cash in my 401k first lol

I do have some Qs:

1. That Subwoofer under the back seat is that OEM? How much are they id definately want that

2. Id definately want that soundbar thing on the roof. Arent they easy to steal? Looks velcroed on.

3. Does the back seat fold up or remove for more luggage space?

4. what should I look for when buying used? Scratches on the underneath? Leaking balljoints/axles/diffs?

I wont be modding it much except cosmetic things. No lift im not into rock crawling or anything.

1: The only subwoofer offered in the Wrangler was a stock unit in 03 and newer models and is located in the center console.

2: They are pretty theft resistant. There are 4-torx head bolts that keep them in.

3: The back seat will tumble forward, but you need to take out a couple of bolts to completely remove it.

4: Definitely look for rust issues. Crawl under it and make sure there is no damage to the control arms/brackets and what not. Be sure to take it for a test drive in a dirt field and shift it into 4WD to be sure that it works properly.
