| New Wrangler Forum member and Wrangler owner!
Hey everyone,
Afters years of dreaming and months of searching, I finally bought a Jeep Wrangler! Its a 2003 4.0 5 speed. 26000 miles. It also has something called the Freedom Package. Does anyone know what this gives the Jeep? The dealer didn't seem to know to much about it.
Also, the weather is nice here, so the first priority is to get that hard top off and get that soft top on. (and then the doors) I started looking at my soft top and the owners manual and ..... is pretty much my reaction.
Is there online instructions somewhere that give a better picture? I tried searching the forums, but came up with nothing. Also is there an FAQ for us newbies? I don't want to ask a bunch of questions that have already been answered a million times.

Congrats on your Jeep purchase. You won't regret it and you're surely to have tons of fun with it.
I don't know of a FAQ, but feel free to jump in here and ask anything you want to know. Maybe, at some point, we can compile a FAQ for Jeepers on here. We don't want to take away from possible discussion though.
Good luck!

Welcome to this forum. Glad you found us. Hopefully you will be glad as well. I do not have any experience with the soft tops, so I can't help you with that. There are a lot of folks on here that have them, so just be patient. Your freedom pkg. is just owning a Jeep. That is your freedom from the mediocrity of everyday living. Enjoy it........it is wonderful. I really don't have a clue to what it is........never heard of it. But you are now free.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the responses. I looked at the soft top a little more tonight and have a better understanding. Hopefully I will have the tops swapped this weekend.
That brought up another question I have. What is the best way to store the hard top? I have heard about pulley systems, but I don't have any idea about how they work. Where do you hook it to the hard top? For the time being, I plan on placing a blanket on the ground, and leaning the top against the wall in my garage.
Also, do the windows come out of the hard top?
Oh yeah, How do you take the doors off? I was looking in my owners manual and it made reference to taking them off, but didn't say exactly how. Do you just undo the strap, take off the two bolts holding the door and left up?
Sorry for all the newbie questions, I am just really excited to get the top and doors off while the weather is nice.

Putting the hard top against your garage wall on a carpet is fine. The windows are not removable on the hardtop. The back window will open, that is it. To remove your doors, take off the two nuts on either door hinge. Spray some WD-40 on the hinges, and move the door back and forth, working in the oil. Remove the nylon retaining straps from the doors. Gently, while moving the door back and forth, apply pressure upwards. If this fails to work, spray more WD-40 on the hinges, put the nut back on the door pin, and gently tap it with a rubber mallot. This may break it loose for you. When you get the doors off, sand the door hinges, and apply some grease to them, and the hinges. This will assure that you won't have any problem removing them again. Happy wheeling..... |

Hey guys,
Thanks for the welcomes and the advice. Hopefully I can get that top off this weekend. The weather has been nice, but I am here in MN and the weather can be change from good to crap overnight. I supposed to rain on Saturday .
I just went to put the Jeep back in the garage, and yeah that turned into a 40 minute joy ride! If it is this fun with the hard top on, I can't even imagine what it is going to be like when I get the soft top on and folded down and the doors off!
This thing rocks!

I just got the hard top off today and took it out. Man was that awsome!! Tomorrow the soft top goes on, so I will have something with me in case it starts to rain.

| Freedom Edition
Hey there I am also new here... Hey everyone! I have a 2003 Freedom Edition KJ (Liberty) It came with Graphite fender well covers that look like bolt-on, Graphite grill, and Cast Alum. Graphite 17" wheels. It has the 2 tone leather/cloth seats and leather steering wheel. Just a few extras. Oh! And the emblem says Freedom Edition. I am trying to sell the wheels as I got the Black steel wheels for off roading.
Good luck with your Wrangler...my next Jeep will be a Wrangler! I do love the Liberty tho and she does great wheelin'!
Later, Tracy
