Newb from NY

Hey new to WF justed wanted to say hey. Long time car, truck and boat guy, new to the wonderful world of Wranglers!

Currently working on rebuilding/modifying an 89 YJ. Sadly only a 2.5 TBI stock with 5sp. But it should work for me. Plan on mainly using it for summertime top off fun and as a backup vehicle for the winter. so far in the last weeks replaced the steering shaft, fixed the seat that had ripped up from the floor and the sliders and risers that had stopped locking and were held togethor by hose clamps, replaing all the vacum lines now.

Next couple of weeks will be a 2.5" RC lift, new exhaust, possible new exh manifold as well (can tell if there are any manifold leaks over current exhaust leaks). I see replacing the 4wd vacum motor or installing a locker as well since I either get stuck in 4WD or can't get 4WD to disengage.

It is all fun and my new best friend is PB Blaster, It is great to have new project to work on.

Welcome to the forum! sorry to hear about the stock 2.5L hahaha j/k. bad vacuum lines may be some of your problem as low vacuum would interfere with proper engagement. also you could connect a vacuum pump like for bleeding brakes to the vacuum motor and check if it holds vacuum. if it doesn't.....well you know what to do. mine has been replaced with a cable operated setup (posi-lock) also you could unbolt the vacuum motor housing and check for a broken shift fork or just dirty parts. if its really grungy in there check the passenger side axle seal. its a common replacement part.

happy wheeling

some may call it overbuilt. my right foot calls it future scrap.
