Thanks for letting me in! First post.
I don't have a jeep but have wanted one forever. Coming here is my first real step in that direction. I'm a handy guy and not afraid to try anything, but have always taken my cars to the shop for service. When I get my wrangler, it'll be the family 3rd vehicle so I'll have no pressure trying to complete any projects from 5pm Friday till 10pm Sunday. Of course I don't want to bite off more than I can chew either, and just end up selling an unfinished project in 3 years and never have driven it. I'll end up using it for occasional drive to work, hauling mountain bike to trails, periodic beginner off roading, use whenever the snow renders my other cars useless.
Ideally, I think I want to take things on in this order, but I'm sure you'll all help me sort this out:
1) Buy a TJ than needs some tlc but drives well enough I don't feel like I bought a big paperweight.
2) 3 inch suspension lift and 1 inch body lift
3) new wheels and tires
4) upgrade engine and transmission to a v8, new axels and change to all disc brakes
I'm sure I will end up doing some other obligatory accessories along the way like a winch and so forth.
I could see all of this going on over 7 years or so, just slow enough to keep pressure off the pocketbook.
Wish me luck, and again thanks for the help!
