Newbie to the forum here. The name is Scottdog. I am a sole owner/operator of a small auto and motorcycle repair shop in Connecthedots. I have come to your forum because I have a 1989 2.5 liter Wrangler that is just kicking my ass. Every morning or so it will start and run for about 10-15 minutes then go into a no-start condition. It is getting spark and fuel. The PCM communicates with a scan tool and all the engine controls report values that are in spec. Timing has been confirmed with a visual at the distributor and chain set. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the welcome. Hope I find some insite soon. With the 2.5 being so uncommon, components are too exspensive to throw at it on a maybe. No choice but to recommend the customer take in elsewhere at this time. Hate to loose the billable job.
When it does the 10-15 thing, it runs well. When it goes into the no start mode, sometimes it fires up for a second and quits. Sometimes it just cranks. The fuel pump runs and produces proper pressure. It won't run on carb cleaner either.
You never want to jump to the PCM but I'm leaning in that direction. Expensive part to be throwing at it without knowing for sure. It's like it forgot how to control the engine when it exits cold mode.
Unfortunately the local junk yards don't have one in stock. They would let me borrow it if they did.
Not untill they get hot I'd take it off and over to an AutoZone and have them hook it up to one of thier testers and run it a couple dozen times. If they get too hot they fail. But once they cool down they'll work like normal.
