I am not new to forums but am completely new to JeepLife. I have wanted a jeep, oh, about 40yrs. I have an Adventure bike, Suzuki VStrom which I have really loved and enjoyed hrs of riding, exploring. But my wife and I are in early 50s and she has convinced me to include the whole family, herself, myself, and our 2 Schnauzers. Incidentally, they had their first ride in the jeep today and appeared to love it (all that wind and smells, don't you know).
Our search for a wrangler was difficult and frustrating due to the large number of options and not knowing what we really needed. We eventually settled on a 1994 barebones Wrangler which has a rhino covered floor, 2in lift, regular all terrain tires, soft top only above us and open for the moment, there is really nothing else inside except for the required stuff, steering wheel, blinkers, stickshift...you get the picture. We have the windows and back plastic to enclose the rear but folded it up and put it away for winter. Since we live in Albuquerque, we decided to go minimalist as this is our "cruiser" for US 66 as well as the surrounding mountains. Weekend drives up to the Sandias, Pecos Wilderness areas, Taos trails.
We are so new so we don't really know what we need. We looked at so many jeeps from "ours" to SE models, to lifted w/Dana, lockers, to Rubicons to Unlimiteds. In the end, this is kind of an experiment, a forray into JeepLife to see if we like it, then can upgrade as our experience demands.
We would like to meet others who would like to explore off the beaten path, go to beautiful outdoor places, and do some camping.
So that is our story and I am sticking to it.
