Newbie from sunny SoCal

Howdy from Redlands, CA. 30 year old male, desk job, need to get outside and have more fun.

I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow morning when I pick up my new toy from the dealership. I've been interested in owning a Wrangler since my spoiled rich high school friend got a used, early 90's model, promptly smashed it into a tree doing donuts, then got a shiny new late 90's model.

I'll be picking up a 1999 TJ, Sahara edition with minimal mods. It looks like a city driver, with cosmetic mods only. I'm hoping that means it wasn't beaten up too badly and I'll be able to get some good life out of it.

The plan is to upgrade over the next year or so from stock to a modest off road machine. I have minimal wrenching experience, so I'm going to use this as an opportunity to become more handy - hopefully not irreparably damaging my new toy as a result. I'm proud to say I already managed to build the DIY hard top dolly, saving myself about a hundred bucks in the process.

Wish me luck...this could get interesting.

OH- ya gotta love the ones who come into the sport excited! I dropped 15K in less than a year on my Jeep. She was stock when I got er'..she ain't no more...and I'm still not done. Looking into dropping either a Klune V or Atlas in her...everything you'll do to your Jeep will cost you a small fortune. BEST advise anyone will give you is do it right the first time, so you don't have to pay twice for what you Really want.

Welcome to the DISEASE. Lorie

Thanks everyone! We picked the Jeep up from the dealership this morning, took her home and immediately started stripping her down. We pulled the hard top off, took the seats out, vacuumed, put seat covers on, and took her out for a spin.

I knew I made a good buy when my neighbor asked if it (1999, 92k miles) was brand new.

Took her out for a short trail run on the Adler Creek trail in Highland. Didn't get to go as far as we wanted due to some gates, but it was nice to get a little dirt on the tires.

I don't know if anyone is going to see this, but I had to come back here looking for old photos, and wanted to post an "After" picture. It's amazing how shiny and clean it looked on the day I brought it home...and also how short and wimpy!
