Howdy Everyone!

Getting ready to come back to the States and retire after 22 years!! Wooh Wooh!! I am looking at a Jeep but need to ensure whatever I get can tow a trailer that I put one (1) Harley into. Its a Softtail.

I really like the looks of the 2-drs but I am being told I should go with the 4-dr due to increased lenght?

Can I haul a nice sized trailer with one or the other? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

Abject

Welcome to the forum and THANK YOU for your service. Are you planning on buying new and what would the total trailer + bike weight be? If you are going for a used Jeep the TJ unlimited has 2 doors + the extended wheel base, D-44 rear axel and an increased towing capacity. I don't know about the JKs (07-11) but I am sure that there is someone here that can help with that.

Welcome to the forum Brother.

Good luck on your jeep search. As for Towing the (97 to 06) TJ is only rated at 2000lb max towing. And the LJ (04 to 06) rated at 2500lbs.

Can't remember the tow rating of the JK's (07 to present) but someone will chime in.

Again welcome to the forum bud.

I'd go with an LJ. Or a 2dr JK since the JK is wider. But the motor in JKs isn't as powerful as the Inline6.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for your service

I was hoping new as I can get the military discount while stationed overseas. So, Ideally, I would like that but no shame in the game if I get a solid ride that I can 4x4 and haul a little with! The Heritage is around 700, trailer about 1000. Tango!

Appreciate it! So, LJ’s seems best if I stick used. Pardon my naivety; Are the two lettered codes linked to the VIN’ sets or something else?

Thank you for the input. Seems the LJ has the lead! It this something i have to ask for when looking at buying used? Are the LJ's the standard for that specfic year(s)?

Thanks! I love it here. 7 years tucked away.... made the deployments bearable. But, I hope to hang the beret up for good soon enough. I hit the northern island of Hokkaido in nine days!! 10 day trip on my Fatboy! gonna circle the whole thing and hit every geo-cache they got up there!!

LJ is a longer wheel base TJ.
It has a wee bit better towing capacity than a normal TJ.
But then again it all comes down to the driver and how good they're at towing.
No you don't have to ask for LJs on used lots not unless they've got it tucked away somewhere, but then again every dealership is different.

JK (07 to present) Both 2 door and 4door.

Also even though I'm not a JK guy don't let the run you away from a used one if it meets your needs.

Welcome! I was stationed at Iwakuni MCAS and in Okinawa for awhile. I loved that country.

Thanks for your service to this country and congratulations on your new jeep and your well earned retirement. Enjoy both!

I have a 98 TJ and I don't have any issues towing a small trailer with a 4 wheeler or pulling my bass boat to the lake.
