Howdy ya'll,
New to the board, old to the jeep game. Got my first jeep at 17, it was a 72 Jeepster Commando, yellow with removeable white top. Loved that jeep, until I was hit broadside by a drunk and rolled it. Rebuilt it with leaf over axles lift (homemade) and a full cage, and soft top from a FJ-40 (lot's of mods there :-) Owned 2 1978 CJ-5, (258 and 304) drove one (258) cross country twice (CT to CA and CA to TX to LA where I shipped it to Panama) Had them both in Panama, highly modified. Owned two XJ's (88 still in Montana and 99 here in Texas, both 4.0's/stock/family transporters) and one YJ (2.5 w/5 spd) while stationed in Guam. Currently own a 97 2.5 TJ (it's my wifes, but I do all the maint). The most recent acquisition was a Texas ranch Jeep I bought off Ebay. I highly not recommend buying a Texas ranch jeep off Ebay. I'm a fairly capable mech, and this thing has been the near death of me. Although now that it's running correctly, it's a joy. The best and most capable stock jeep I've ever owned. Also owned a 43 MB project that I bought in 1992. It's still somewhere in Montana, Butte, I think. Stock except for warn 2 blade locking hubs. Had dreams of swapping a 500ci caddy into that one.
Anyhow, that's it in a nutshell. Oh yeah, also owned a FJ40 that I drove cross country from CA to CT in 84. That was a hoot. Lot's of off roading experience care of the military in the US, Europe, Africa, South/Central America, and Pacific.
