Cool Problems with HID kit

Hey all, just joined the forum and wanted say Hi first of all . I bought HID kit for my 2011 Wrangler Unlimited and installed it. Looks great but as soon as i start the car and turn the headlights on they start to flicker. I checked all connections and all were fine. It seems to only flicker when the car is running. Has anyone had this problem? Oh and i found out bulb replacement size for fog lights if anyone is interested. Bulb size is H16. I found several websites that sell them in LED form

Hi I have an 89 YJ with HID's Obviously I had to change my lenses and all. And I had well have the same problem I was told to get the wiring harness it basically connects the whole set up directly to the battery and it has a relay and when you hit the switch they go on but the power comes from the battery to make a long story short it still does it but only one light so this is how I get mine to stop flickering and I've had the HID's since the summer. When you hit the switch at night wait about 5 seconds or so turn them off and back on quickly and it goes away and always after you start the jeep not good idea to have them on while cranking the motor,I have put HiD's on all my vehicles and two have given me this problem.

HID Problem Solved

Thanks for the reply and welcomes !!! I called up the auto store where i purchased the kit and explained the problem i was having to them. They sold me 2 capacitors which looked like they belonged in the kit, almost like they removed them from the kits they offered and sold them separately to make more money. But who knows, long story short, they work. Thanks for the suggestions Tony.

I'm still learning here, but some vehicles monitor the head lights and do not work with HIDs. To circumvent this, they use a box that essentially tricks the computer. I believe the newer Jeeps are like this.

Sure no problem. Sorry i haven't been able to get the picture up yet for you. The weather has been crazy wet by me and i have to pull off the front grill along with the headlights. Kinda timely, but today is looking clear.

Yeah you are right about the box. I spoke to a friend of mine that works as a mechanic for jeep and he said they are trying to regulate the use of the universal fitting HID kits for cars cause there have been many complaints of drivers being blinded by the lights. Same goes for the fog lights in newer cars. I read a post by someone who mentioned it as well. I believe GM is trying for the same thing.

My understanding was it is intended to detect when you have a headlight out, but I may be wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Dodge was getting too many complaints about after market HIDs, they are the new trend.

My GM doesn't need the box, just wires directly up.

the h16 bulb for the fog light . does it require any mods to wiring and will it plug right into the housing? I have been searching everywhere for some bulbs and all i can find is the psx24w on the factory bulb.
