Question Smittybuilt X20 Winch or Warn Question

Brand new jeeper here with a strong desire to own a winch. Prior to joining this site I thought of purchasing a Smittybuilt X20 waterproof winch instead of a Warn mostly because of the cost and the assumed effects of the salt water and air in Fla.
Does anyone have experience with the X20, is it made in the USA, and how does it compare to the Warn line (other than price of course).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

you posted in the wrong area, im sure a mod can move it for you. To answer your question, all smittybilt product are made in china. The x20 is no different, WARN is the top of the line winch made in the USA and in the long run you will be glad you got it!!

Build thread or it didn't happen

Some of the parts are mace in China, it's assmbled in the US.
I don't think you'll find many 100% made in America products for vehicles anymore

My Warn M 8000 has went through 2 motors and will not free spool at all and hasn't since new.Rebuilt entire brake assm still no free spool.Replaced it with a Smittybuilt X2O 10,000 Comp series.I have made about 4 hard pulls with it so far.The motor stayed cool my amp gauge did not drop as far down as it did using my warn. The free spool is fantasic and the wireless feature on the controller works GREAT,if the batt in the controller goes bad just hook the wire lead up.To get a new Warn with the same features would have been over $1000.
Both times my motor quit it was another jeep with a well used Smittybuilt that pulled me out. Only time will tell but I use my winch so we shall see.But so far it has perfomed as well if not better than my Warn.
I did not throw my Warn in the trash some day I may rebuild it.
One other thing I got my X20 from 4wd Hardware and for an extra $52 I got their extreme warranty for the next 5 years if ANYTHING happens to that winch a tree falls on it any failure at all the winch is replaced at no cost.

I only have used my 10k x20 a few times in the last month I've had it but a couple of them have been really hard and it's stood up to it. I LOVE the remote control. I love the synthetic line. I love the looks of the winch. And most of all, I'm pretty stoked about it being about 1/2 the price of warn with less specs.

in every foreign that I've ever been a part of, there's always one or two subjects that are immediately contentious. Congratulations, you've just found the one for!

Seriously though, you will find opinions here pretty evenly split between the "Warn saved my life" contingent and the "Warn is over priced, brand X works fine for what I need" faction.

I don't have either winch yet, so I can't offer any real world experience, except to say that if I'm not mistaken, the Warn's are pretty much waterproof as well. They are certainly seen as the gold standard in the industry, but obviously the price reflects that as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Okay guys, I'm afraid I'm going to have to lock this thread. The OP hasn't been on line for almost 3 years. If you want to discuss winches and bumpers, I suggest you post in the appropriate forum areas.

Have a good day.
