Starting Reasearch 2 months before purchase

Hello to all From New Jersey. I Just had to turn in my financed Chevy cobalt due to the drop in the economy. Work is slow, bills are high and I just couldnt make it.
I used to own a ford bronco full sized which I truly loved and traded in when the price of gas made my 105 mile commute nearly impossible.
I will be looking toward the purchase of a wrangler early next year with a budget of about 4K.
so far i have seen High milage with tons of extras or low milage with no extras.
My issues are as follows,I have 4 kids and need room available just in case,I dont live in the greastest pf neghborhoods so rag top would not be the way to go, And during the warm mothns with no rain I ride my motorcycle to work or for anything else.
i will be dilligently reading the forum to get a bigger picture, But i am looking foward to any and all info and suggestions.Looking foward to sharing much with everyone here.

Hi Jose...

Based on your needs is a Wrangler really a good vehicle for you? They obviously have lots of redeeming values, as anyone here will be glad to tell you :-)

But they are small vehicles that get lousy gas mileage. A Wrangler does not have seats for all your kids and on that 105 mile commute won't give you much better mileage than your old full size truck did.

^^^ sadly he's right.

Any jeep you can get for 4K is not going to have the room. All wranglers are 4 passenger. And the back seat is really only comfy/ big enofe for children. It's to cramped back there for adult to sit comfortably without putting the front seats all the way forward.
The new 4 door wrangler can seat 5 but they are far from 4K.

Gas mileage will be around 16mpg on average.

Good luck with your search.

Welcome Jose,
the main reason I have just recently purchased a 4 door Jeep was because they have more room. I have two smaller dogs & the TJ just didn't have the room for them & groceries & forget taking passengers off road as well as the dogs lol. Maybe by the time you are ready you will be able to get a 4 door & in that case you would be very happy with the extra room & better fuel mileage. Personally I think the 2 doors are very awkward to get people into the back (let alone children) you would soon be cursing! Not knocking them either they are very fun to own & after working for Toyota in Australia & owning other makes I think Jeeps (Chrysler) are the best vehicles on the market.
Good luck with your future search & I hope you can come to a good solution for your new vehicle.

Hey guys, I always seem to leave out important details.
i no longer have the big commute so A truck is definetly feasible for my means. I only need room for my children incase my wife is out or the van is down, Other than that I only commute 5 miles one way to work and this will be my leisure vehicle.
In a n emergency situation,My kids can def squeeze in back there and be transported. Other than the the van is my wifes vehicle and the kids main source of transportation.

My chevy cobalt was also cramped in the back seats , but I think my kids were in it 3 times in 2 years of which was just to take them to school.
