Thinking about a Wrangler, but which one

Hi all.

greetings from down under.

I am at present thinking about getting rid of my dual cab hi-lux & getting myself a 2 door Wrangler if the minister of war & finance votes in agreement

I have seen a couple of new ones advertised at dealers which look like a pretty good deal, or good package but I am in a bgit of a dilemma.

One is a rubicon (2011) and the other is a Sport (2011) with a mopar performance pack valued at $10500 (aus)

Do you guys have any suggestions/imput?

I fancy the rubicon because of the electronic diff lockers, but the Mopar pack will save me a heap of time & grief getting the mods done once I have picked the car. I am also hoping it might save money as well in the long term.

While I am asking questions, what would be a suggested tire size with the 2" lift kit? I dont plan on doing serious mud bashing, but off road & possible sand work would be on the agenda for the first few years.

here are links to the ads:

I would go with the Rubicon, take the difference in price and you can modify the Rubicon in the exactly the image you want it to be, instead of settling for the parts that come with that installed package. In effect, you are getting the Rubicon features - lockers, wheel and tires, suspension, electronic disconnect - plus 8k to do what you want with the Jeep. 8K can build a lot.

Thanks for the welcome all.

since first posting, I have actually found a couple of very low mileage demo rubicons with various mods at pretty good prices, so it looks like I will have to get my negotiation skills working, and get myself a good deal.

Welcome aboard! Me personally, I would get the Rubicon. Good platform to build on and it will be great out of the box.

sorry for not posting earlier. been too busy buying, pimping & then trying to break my JK (LOL)

I ended up buying an ex-demo 2 door JK sport. Just under 5000km's. It was actually a Chrysler head office demo vehicle, so had a mopar front fender, T-Max 9500lb winch and a maquarie 4x4 roofrack frame. I also got the dealer to fit a tow ball as part of the deal.
I paid $32,000 (Aus) which was a good deal as the 2011 3.8 models were being sold off to make way for the Pentastar, so a saving of about $10,000 or more.

Heres a couple of pics before the fun started.

I then had a set of Fox shocks, 3" lift, poly springs, Mickey thompson 35" MTZ's & Mickey thomspon sidebiter rims fitted.

Fitted my old UHF, a bit of bling here & there, 4 LED rigid industry spots, Body Armor rear tire carrier with jerry can holders. Flattie flares & rock sliders and probably a few minor mods I've forgotten about,

Still on the shopping list are Dana 44's & Elockers. Even contemplating a supercharger, but need to start saving or to win the lottery

heres a few pics of her now:

Thanks all.

I'm real pleased with how she is starting to look.

Put the soft top on this weekend and found out that they have given me a pre 2011 rear window that didn't fit when I bought her.
Back to the dealer and he dug me out one that fitted. 👍

Weathers improving this week and Thursday should be 28c so perfect weather for going topless.
