I have a 2010 Wrangler that I just put a tow bar on so I can tow it behind my Motorhome. My owners manual says to leave the key in accessory mode and to disconnect the battery when towing. Is that necessary as the steering wheel has no lock anyway. I of course know to leave transfer case on neutral but just don't understand why I would leave the key on and disconnect the battery? You turn the key to accessory to unlock the wheel so it can turn while being towed. My dad found out the hard way what happens when you don't unlock the wheel in the form of two new tires.
Its possible the JKs don't have an unlocked position, so they tell you to put it to acc to unlock the wheel and then pull the batter cable to not drain the battery.
