I went from a crew cab long bed 3/4 ton and an suv , to a SWB rubicon, and my GF has been lookin at mid size trucks. I think I might be able to help you out

You will miss the power. Jeep 4.0s have plenty of torque at idle, but 0 hp. You will really miss the space, both bed and interior. If you need the space, get an LJ. TJs dont have much unless you remove the back seat. You *may* miss the reliability. nI have bad luck with Jeeps, but plenty of people run TJs as DDs with no problem. Gas mileage will stay the same. Unless you get something geared tall with small tires, dont expect any better gas mileage. It may be slightly better, but dont count on it. After some quick mods, itll be back to the titans range if it wasnt when you bought it. Ride quality will really go down. Wranglers are loud, hot, cold, and bumpy. You will loose all the creature comforts. Warranty stuff is a PITA, unless you get a good dealer. Youll also loose all the advantages of a pick up.

On the plus side, youll be part of the jeep community, will be able to go places in 4x2 you never could in a 4x4 pickup. Jeeps litterally can go anywhere. Youll also gain a convertable 4x4. Summer the top comes off, and winter the jeep wont quit moving forward (or sideways ). Jeeps are also easy to work on. Deslite all the bad, youll either love it or hate it, and youll know on the test drive.

If I could do it again, Id keep the truck/suv as a DD, and buy an old play toy Jeep. Like I said though, people DD jeeps all the time(me included).

They are noisy on the inside, get terrible gas mileage, ride like a log wagon, have no cargo space, and are pretty much the most no frills vehicle you can get.

That being said, I love mine.

I've had I've had trucks, muscle cars, rice racers, and big Broncos and I can honestly say the Jeep is the most fun I have had with any vehicle. You just have to realize what you are getting and why you are getting it. I would never try to talk anyone out of a Jeep but I also know that unfortunately they weren't made for everyone. Go test drive a few and go from there.

One of the pros: they are very reliabe as there are many out there with 150k miles and up still running as daily drivers. Both the four or six are purpose built motors that will serve you well if properly maintained.

I'm sure many of us here can go on and on about these things. If you have any more specific questions fire away. There are many fanatics here that are more than happy to talk Jeep with people.

I got the same things to say.. If you ask some analyst whether you should buy a wrangler he will laugh at you because from a logical standpoint this thing is no DD. It should be a toy at best.

BUT>>

YOu will never ever regret having it. Even with all the drawback, the feeling you get the first time you help pull a toyota out of a jam will more than make up for it.

i appreciate the responses. i know i might lose some comfort and performance goin w/ the jeep, but i'm not really a drag racer...tho i appreciate the engine i got now lol. love my truck, dont get me wrong, but it doesnt fit me when i really think about it. alwys wnted a manual too

i noticed that the newer model wranglers have options like power windows/locks which is cool and somethin about mp3 compatible w/ some of the cd player & audio options...does that mean it has an AUX input to hook your ipod up or do wranglers not hve that as an option? my ipod pretty much goes everywhere i go and would suck not to be able to listen to it in the truck. hopefully easy to install if it doesnt already come w/ it.

i'd prob go w/ a hardtop unless the softtop was more appealing. any probs w/ the hard or soft top? both easy to remove? if you get the hardtop, can you remove all the windows also like the back window? looked around and wsn't sure how that worked...know you can remove the doors and fold down the windshield.

tons of questions, but think when i go to testdrive one i'll get most answerd...thnx for the info! ~

Ditto, I too went from a F-150 Supercrew Lariat 4x4, to a Jeep wrangler, My truck had alot of miles and thought it would be fun to get a jeep for the summer, and it is fun to have, but I miss my truck, I miss my V8, and I miss the size and ability as a tow vehicle.

And JC was prolly on to somthing, maybe look at getting a cheaper one, and working on it just as a toy, I hope that mine goes to toy status sometime soon lol.

As far as the hardtop, I have one, and it is great with full doors, but I am 6'2 225 and there is no way I could take it on or off by myself, definately a two man job. And with the hardtop, it is either all the way on, or all the way off, no removable windows, etc.

Seems like the answer to most, if not all, of the drawbacks to having a Jeep is "but so what, it's a Jeep". It's fun.

got to test drive an auto 07 sahara yesterday...while it was raining. was impressed w/ the ride. lot smoother than i expected. steering a little more loose than what i'm used to, but not horrible

couple questions. one about the hardtop: the roof was leaking a little in the front middle whre it seemed to joined the windshield. that a defect in all jeeps w/ the hardtops? does jeep only use one style hardtop or do they use whatever is available at the time?

also, i always wanted a manual but ended up getting auto's so i never had a chance to really get to know a manual. lol, hows that work when you want to buy one but dont want to f--- up the dealers stock? i'm sure its easy, but dont wanna strip gears on a new vehicle.

got a question about colors available too...when you play around on jeep.com, it lets you choose a rubi in detonator yellow but the dealer, or one of the dealers, was pretty sure that they dont even offer that color on 07's. anyone know if yellow is avail on 07's or maybe on the upcoming 08's or why the website is wrong? gotta be yellow!

thnx guys
