My name is Bill Deaderick.
I just purchased a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X "Willys Edition" from a private party. This jeep was previously owned by 3 other owners. The specifics on this Jeep are 4.0L In Line 6 Cylinder Engine, 4 speed auto Transmission, 4x4, 48,000 miles. (still 12,000 miles left on drivetrain warrenty.)
My problem is that the rear differential started siezing up on my trip from San Diego to Lake Tahoe. I took it to Carson City Chrystler Dodge / Jeep. They said the rear differential would have to be rebuilt but they will not honor the warrenty because the gears in the differential were changed to 4.11 gears.
I can't understand why someone would change from factory when the warrenty was still good. I thought for sure that the 4.11 gears were factory because the special edition "Willys" was made for more rugged rock climbing and they only made 2000 to 3000 of them. Does anybody know if this is true? What is the factory gear ratio (4.11 or 3.73)?
IF anyone knows can you please advise? This will cost me $2,000.00 if not covered.
