waiting to be one of you

I'm a 43 year old female who fell in love with the wrangler a year ago after my first ride with a friend. I'm just out of a bankruptcy and even though I now have the money to pay for a jeep I can't even get approved for a used jeep. Why are jeeps so hard to finance? Has anyone out there had this problem and If so any advice. I'm tired of spending all my time off at the dealer dreaming about them.

ya, the pendulum has swung in the other direction now. but welcome to the group.

here's my advice, make yourself a car payment for a while, pay yourself 300 bux a month, and in less than a year go buy a nice used jeep. even if you don't have enough to buy it all in cash, you probably won't be turned down with a 50 percent down payment or so.

Hi there, and Welcome!

I have to agree with Doc, as I have done the same thing (My credit isn't horrible, but medical things screwed it up *just* enough to hurt my financing ability). I actually do that very same thing - even though I don't have a payment on my Jeep, I still put 200 bucks a month into a different account and I don't touch it. That keeps me in money for vacations, parts, etc. in fact, I am leaving on vacation in 8 days that was paid for that way

Anyway, Welcome again and good luck getting your Jeep! You won't regret it.

Welcom pilgrim ... As far as the financing, they have pretty much covered the basics. I work at a power sports dealership and it is very hard for a lot of people to get financing even with good credit. The best thing to do would be to save up and try and get a loan through your own personal bank or credit union or have a really strong co-signer that would be willing to put their credit on the line for you to help you get a jeep. If it was up to me everybody that wanted a jeep would get approved, but that's not my call.

Very good advice, credit unions seem to offer the best solution if your credit is on the rebound. If you are a member through your work or if not maybe if you could join and start a savings account. Good Luck. Hope things work out for you.

Ren, we are in the same boat, just different seats.
I'm waiting until I can pay cash for a used jeep. After reading forum after forum here I have decided to wait until I can get what would be best rather than getting a junker that may become a money pit of repairs, etc. I had rather put money into improvements over just getting it going.
The wrangler will be my second Jeep, the other is a Cherokee. I waiting to have a real jeep :-)
There is a ton of good advice on this forum from jeep lovers!
This is what I found in regards to a getting a jeep:

YJ - harder ride, less frills, less cost to fix, spring suspension, less upgrades.
TJ - softer ride, more frills, more cost to fix, coil suspension, tons of upgrades.
Either way stay away from the rust
Get the 6 rather than the 4 - same gas mileage, 6 has much more power and better resale. (My 2000 Cherokee is inline 6 and is great)

Good luck hunting your Jeep!
