Hi yall. I am going to do my best to introduce myself halfway intelligantly, which is a stretch for me. I am a 29 yr old Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, currently stationed at Fort Hood, pending early retirement due to, to many blasts to the Nogin. I was Born in Minnesota but hightailed it outa there as soon as I was eligible for enlistment, and havent been back since. If there are any Viking's on here I am not blasting my birth state just got sick of it over my 17 yrs of cold winters and short summers. I now consider myself a true Kentucky-ite, as my wife and her whole family hail from the Appilacian area of the deep dark woods of SE Kentucky and i have never fall'n in love so fast with a place so quickly. But being in the Army has taken me away form "Home" for the time being.
As far as Jeeps, and specifically wranglers I am a total newb. My only use for a 4 Wheel drive vehicle of the caliber is my duck addiction. It has taken me to some water holes in some deep forboding areas. Up until my purchase of a new 2 dr soft top 2012 Wrangler sport /w/ manual tranny. I made my way as close to those holes in a 05 2500 silverado. The wrangler has given me the ease of getting right on my choice of hunting area and unloading my gear near the shore and then hiding the jeep in some tight forest areas near my spot.
In doing so, I have also developed a interest in amature off-roading for sport. Since its purchase I have added, smittybuilt rocker panel-rock guards, an OME lift with the Nitro/heavy load shocks, Rancho Steering stablizer to assist in keeping my 32 in Yoko Geolanders on the stock steelies in check, Also from Rancho I added front and rear max clearance rock bumpers with swing away tire carrier. And a Smittybuilt XRC8 Winch with poisenspyder fairlead mount. It has been quite the performer IMO. I did have a clutch issue at only 2k miles. It stripped all the fibers off the disk and left me stranded on the hard ball after a fairly short and low difficulty scouting session prior to the season opener. After 2 days of back and forth with my local stealership it was replaced under warranty. The new clutch seams to be holding up decently, but today i got stuck in a medium sized rut filled with water. Stalled her out on the way out. started her up and reversed all the way out with ease, shifted into four low and threw my rig straight thru the hole by the time I hit 2nd. I stopped ate the top and smelled clutch again just as I did the day my clutch went out. Fortunatley she didnt fail me this time, but it does leave me concerned that the clutch jeep selected for the much higher output penstar may not be sufficient for the tourqe and power she puts out in offroad situations. If any one else has experienced this please IM me the details of your experience. I am not new to manual transmissions or clutch use on and off road, so I refuse to aknowledge user error.
So thats me in a fairly long nutshell. I look forward to benifiting from our more experienced members.
thanks for looking
