when i lived in hawaii, and was running around in my jeep, i got a cb, and you would be amazed by how many fellow 4 wd 'ers i met! big offroad cb following in hawaii. met lots of good people!unk:
I am getting ready to replace my 1993 YJ radiator for the second time in 8 years. It is my understanding that stock radiators are notorious for disintegrating; over 50% of the metal fins have broken off for the second time. Any suggestions, how are your radiators holding up?
I'm movin out to Oahu next semester and I was wondering if it would be worth the 2000$ dollar shipping fee to get my jeep put there. Are there many trails? And to anyone who's had a jeep on the mainland are parts wayyy more expensive over there?
There are quite a few trails, youtube peacock flats and Ka'eana point, its not all of them but it will give you an idea. We have alot of technical stuff, and easy stuff. Its really up to you.
If your jeep needs work, i would get it done on the mainland. If you want anything done to the jeep i would get it on the mainland. If you can catch my drift, everything is more expensive out here and if they don't have it, you wait for it (typically 1-2 weeks). There are a few 4x4 parts places out here so getting stuff isnt hard, but it can test your patience.
All in all its a great vehicle to have here. I would never say its not worth it, cause i love having mine here. Just understand it is more expensive, but man the pics you get to send to you other jeep friends is awesome.
I am getting stationed in Oahu for 3 years and bringing my jeep. Looking to find some trails and get this puppy going and any tips on getting things done here in California before I leave. I'll be shipping in 2-3 weeks so I have that much longer to ride. I will be out there in Jan.
If you have big ticket items you want to add to your jeep, purchase them before you get here...shipping cost of tires, etc are costly.
If you have a lift, etc and plan to register the jeep in hi you'll need to get recon ready. Log into ohanatrails.com and search for recon to learn more. Stay tuned to the site for trail runs. I'm macman on that site.
