First Time Vacationer

Hey HI jeepers, my wife surprised me with a trip to Oahu for our anniversary. Neither of us have ever visited and I wanted to find out what are some CAN'T miss attractions? Well be there 5 nights. Any insight would be fantastic!

Happy Jeepin!
Neal

Really depends what you guys like to do, there is quite a lot of variety. Scuba Diving, hiking, fishing, parasailing, jet skiing, etc. then there is the usual attractions such as the Arizona Memorial, Mighty Mo Battleship, Hanauma Bay, Polynesian Cultural Center, Waikiki Beach, North Shore - Haleiwa, etc.

We'd like to snorkel, not much for scuba. I am into history so anything with historical significance would be cool. Her one must do is a luau. We are planning on North Shore for sure, she got tickets for Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay and the Zoo.

ON oahu, I would say all of pearl harbor is a must. A day at Waiikiki and a good snorkel trip. Also, check the travel books for good hikes to take. We use Hawaii Revealed. They have one for each Island. As far as the Luau, I would recommend you eat a bit before you go. The food we had was really greasy and the whole family went home hungry, but the entertainment was good. Last, seeing as how your wife surprised you, you may want to order her a lei for when she gets off the plane. You can find the company info on google. It's a little pricey, but the girls seem to love the flower necklace. Have fun.

When are you coming? Just consider you have a personal local knowledge PM function through this forum. I mean like wherever you are, whatever you do such as places to eat or activities just shoot me a PM and I will dial you in to the best way to go about it. Stuff you won't find in any tourist book.

Paradise cove luau is awesome. I recommend that. North shore shark adventures is awesome too. Did that a couple weeks ago. If you like to hike and jump off cliffs munawali falls hike is a cool one. When you goto Pearl Harbor of course do the mighty Mo and bowfin, they have a aviation museum too but I think it's a waste of money IMO. AS for snorkeling I would goto Koolina which is on the west side (also paradise cove luau) and maybe make a day of it. Humanau bay is cool too tho. I have lived here for 7 months and never been to Waikiki beaches cause they are too crowded. Goto other beaches less crowded. Oh I do recommend a dinner cruise. On Friday nights they do fireworks in Waikiki and I watched them from the dinner cruise. All my friends say the sky diving on north shore is a must do (I'm doing it here soon even tho I fear heights). Um let's see there's also the Polynesian culture center I have yet to do and also turtle bay on the north shore is a popular tourist spot. Oh and the dole plantation is a tourist thing to do.

I spend most of my time on the west side beaches with the locals tho. And occasionally on the east side beaches. I don't know when your coming but it's hot here right now. I've heard it's the hottest summer they have had here in awhile. You will learn that traffic sucks tho real fast lol. When you goto North Shore I recommend going early. I live on south west side of island and can take up to two hrs because of traffic to get to north shore beaches on weekends.

Oh and I read something the other day that I wanna do which is the palace they have here on the island. Haven't really researched it too much yet tho.

Thanks for all the info! We'll be there Sept 23rd thru Sept 28th. I'll shoot out some PMs closer to the trip for some input.
