Does it do anything the stock unit doesn't? Or is this just a replacement pump for the common "fuel line fails to stay primed" issue?

This doesn't do anything special that a factory unit will not do. It should resolve the issue of loss of PSI in the fuel rail (given there isn't a leak somewhere else in the system). Typically, as a fuel pump of this type gets older, the fuel will leak back passed the seals when not in a running status. Just nature of the beast.

Namaste,

Allen
