We are Full Metal Fabworks LLC, a new vendor on the site. We know a lot of you frequent several forums, so you may recognize us from over on JKO. We have several products in the development process, but in the mean time we wanted to release a few of the products we offer to a new crowd and get our name out there a little more. Enough with the introduction, and on to the parts.
One of the first parts we would like to bring to market is The Solution Plate license plate relocation system. It’s no secret that the JK’s license plate is mounted in a vulnerable location and is prone to damage on the trails. For those looking to clean up the back of their JKs and ditch the extra weight of a tail gate mounted spare, the tire carrier mount provides a great spot to relocate your license plate.
The solution plate is laser cut from .090 aluminum and formed using a custom die. This forming process not only greatly increases the strength and rigidity of the plate, it also allows us to address a couple issues left untouched by existing license plate relocation systems in a single streamlined part.
The plate is dimpled out 7/8” to allow both horizontal and vertical vents to remain fully functional WITHOUT REMOVING THE VENT. This is important because it allows the cab to remain sealed from dust and water just as Chrysler designed it from the factory. A row of four laser cut holes along the bottom of the plate allow the vent to "breath".
It ships powder coated in a textured satin black finish,with (4) 1/4-20x3/8" stainless steel button head cap screws and (4) 1/4-20 top lock nuts for mounting the license plate, 3 plugs for the tailgate, and the solution plate itself mounts using the existing factory spare tire carrier mounting bolts and holes. We also are a dealer for ORO and sell their LiteDOT LED license plate light and 3rd brake light that really helps clean up the back of our JKs.

Thanks for the welcome Kramer. The first pic is little newer than the rest, and that is one of our Apex rear bumpers with the integrated Rigid backup. Looks great. However, am I missing something? Somehow I could never imagine traveling anywhere without a spare.
However, if I ever decide to roll with my spare on the roof rack I will look you up.
Bikeped, Thank you for the compliments and you definitely aren't alone with this thought process. We know a lot of people who wouldn't leave their garage and venture all the way to the end of the driveway to check their mail without a full size spare mounted up and ready to go. So we know this product won't be for everyone but there are several reasons people go without spares or don't have them center mounted on the tail gate.
Some of them are:
1.) Weight Savings - some choose to leave the spare off to save the 130lbs or more that a 37,wheel, and carrier will add, especially on daily driven rigs where MPG is important
2.)Wheeling Locations - if you are wheeling Southern Style parks where you aren't more than a couple miles from your tow rig/trailer then its fairly easy to leave your spare there and if something happens have someone in your group run back and grab it (assuming it can't be fixed with a plug or patch and aired back up on the trail). Now if you are planning on driving to the Rubicon and camping half way through, then obviously going spare-less isn't as great of an option.
3.) visibility/departure angle- running a center mounted spare is going to affect 1 (or both) of these negatively no matter how you mount it, so if a spare is a must then some would rather have it mounted laying down out of the way behind the seats.
4.) Cost - For some people running a full size spare may not be an option when they first lift their JK. If you're running 37s or larger then its easily going to add $750-$1500 to the overall build cost between a 5th tire, 5th wheel, and a quality carrier that can support the new wheel and tire combo.
Do you guys have a way to light the plate. It's state law where I live to have our plate lit at night.
Yes, we offer the ORO liteDOT tag/3rd brake light for this. It has 3 rearward facing red LEDs to serve as the 3rd brake light and 3 downward facing white LEDs to illuminate the tag. Let us know if you need a pic of the tag light at night and we'll see what we can dig up for you.
We added another option for a CB antenna mount that works well with the Solution Plate. The idea came from a member and it puts the antenna far enough towards the outside of the Jeep that its out of the way of the spare tire but far enough inside that it isn't constantly getting thrashed by trail obstacles. These are also $12 when ordered in combination with a Solution Plate. Details have been added to the original post.
We've had a lot of requests for the plugs to fill the holes in the tailgate and the factory license plate mount. We added an option for the license plate delete plug in the original post and from now on kits will come standard with the 3 plugs for the tail gate. If you have already purchased a kit previously and have not yet found a solution for the tail gate plugs we will make this retro-active so just give us a call and we will send the 3 plugs your way.

The wiring on the ORO liteDOT is not plug and play but is about as straight forward as a wiring job gets. It comes with 3 wires in a pre-made loom, a (+) for the tag light, (+) for the brake/running light, and a ground. To make the install as clean as possible we run them through the tailgate,behind the plastic cover (on the inside of the tailgate), through the factory cloth wiring loom by the hinge, and then splice into the passenger tail light harness so there are no visible wires inside or outside. Here is a review from a customer of ours that was hesitant but ended up buying the ORO tag/3rd brake light.
"I purchased the plate and LED light a couple of months ago and love it. I considered not buying the light, because I get a little intimidated with wiring of any kind, super glad I bought it though. The whole install probably took me a little over an hour. I took my time to make sure I made it look as clean as possible and so I wouldn't have to tear it back apart later. The best write-up I found was on jk-forum, I'll try to link it. The only other thing I can think you'd need to know is that you'll want a decent drill bit to to make a hole in the license plate holder. This will allow you to hide the wire that comes out of the led. On a side note, I was able to visit the shop and was really impressed with the style and quality of all of their products. The owner Andrew spent a great deal of time showing me around, pointing out details of their stuff, and answering a ton of my questions.
