"wranglerforum" still works but it's been changed from 10% to 5%. It still includes free shipping. Not all manufacturers are eligible for a discount.

I'm really grateful that we get that 5% discount, but when I'm shopping for a $1200 bumper, I'd prefer to have a 10% code!

No joke! See if you can get that big shop on the other coast to ship you a 150 pound bumper without a "surcharge" good luck!

I don't know what other "big shop" you're talking about, because I buy almost exclusively from Northridge. But, I do agree- 5% and free shipping is still a deal!

A lot of places offer free shipping so it's tough to look at that as an incentive.

The customer wants to save as much money as they can. That's normal and understandable. The 5% difference on an sPod, a replacement hood latch, and a fairlead can add up to a little bit of cash. Not everything has a surcharge so, like the free shipping bit, it's tough to look at that as an incentive.

Look, I don't fault Northridge4x4 for changing the discount. The company is in business to make money, not to give away their products. One way to do that is to reduce the amount of the discount. As long as the company doesn't lose more than about 95% of their potential sales, they come out ahead. And I'm sure the bean counters have already crunched the number and figured it out as best they could.

Personally, I really like the customer service I got at Northridge4x4. But it's tough to say the customer service is worth paying an extra $30-35.

We still will beat any advertised deal... I think 10 years ago we were the originator in free shipping in this industry and soon everybody followed. Free shipping is a huge incentive but I think the best incentive other than our customer service is how fast you receive the product.

Also to add. No bean counters here!

I'll say this- Northridge's customer service is almost impossible to beat, as are the prices (retail - 5% + free shipping). I will continue to buy from them!

www.4wd.com/ - Free shipping
www.quadratec.com - Free shipping on orders over $70
www.shopjeepparts.com/ - Free shipping on orders over $99
www.extremeterrain.com/ - Free shipping on orders over $75
www.jeep4x4center.com/ - Free shipping on orders over $99
www.jcwhitney.com/ - Free shipping
www.4wheelparts.com/ - Free shipping on orders over $75
www.krawloff-road.com - Free shipping on orders over $99

What you did 10 years ago is great and all but I've quickly listed 8 other companies that offer free shipping today. They may have followed your lead but that doesn't make your free shipping any cheaper to the customer than their free shipping. And again, I'm not knocking you for lowering the forum discount. I'm simply giving you a customer's opinion.

But someone or some people make financial decisions for the company. Same concept.

Why are people upset when there are other forum sponsors NOT offering a discount on top of Free Shipping? They price match too... it seems that most are satisfied with this. I've never ordered from Northridge4x4 but I will check them out the next time I'm looking for something.

While I can't speak for the people who are upset, I can guess as to their reason. The change in the discount can be viewed as a 5% increase in price. The forum discount is an incentive for the members of a forum to go to that store and shop. When the discount is exclusive to a specific group, it makes the members of the group feel special. It's an exclusive deal for valued customers. So a decrease in the discount makes the members of the group feel a little less special, a little less valued.

And it's all about perspective. To someone who's never shopped there before, a 5% discount is good. It's a small token of their appreciation. To those who have shopped there before, it's as if they're appreciated...but not quite as much as before.

I stopped shopping at Northridge and stopped telling people about them after my last purchase. They did me wrong (in my eyes) after I was a very loyal customer for two years. I no longer support them in any way. Now go ahead and flame me for not liking Northridges customer service.

I've had nothing but good customer service from them. They helped me get a couple of replacement pieces for a bumper when the company that makes the bumper didn't seem interested in helping me. And when I bought my winch, they modified their promotion to match a promotion that another vendor was offering.

I can't flame you for not liking their customer service. If you felt you were wronged then you were wronged and you should spend your money where you want. I will say that it's hard to understand your perception of the problem without knowing the problem. But the fact that you said you were wronged without explaining how you were wronged leads me to wonder if you might think you're being a little sensitive about the incident.

I understand it can't be repaired and there are other vendors out there. But you made the decision to post in this thread talking about their bad customer service. Without giving an example, I doubt people will put much stock in your opinion. Along the same lines, I doubt people would put much stock in my opinion if I hadn't given examples of their good customer service.

I like Northridge (cannot stand Quadratec anymore) but I also support a couple of the smaller vendors. All good, since I am financially irresponsible and buy too much stuff! NR now opened up locally though, so that 5% discount is eaten up by the tax.

You all do realize it's not exactly free shipping on all items. Some items may be priced higher to include a portion of the actual shippping cost. If a product is $100 with free shipping, is that better then an $85 product with a $15 shipping cost? I'm not saying that example applies to everything they sell, but be conscious of actual prices.

I'm a big fan of Northridge and love their customer service (usually the first place I check for things), but unfortunately I'll probably be doing a little more research with other vendors from now on now that the discount has went down. Still 5% is better than nothing, and I appreciate them supporting the forum.

Its not hard to do the math there... go to 'site you like' get item price, add shipping.. Go to Northridge, find same product...

Its kinda monkey math... It's really not hard. If 'Q' had better price after shipping I would buy from them. They don't. Over and over again, they don't. And if you're not sure, open two browsers and work it out on your own. Its not like some NSA secret thing. Price + Shipping = landed cost.

The heavier the item is, the more likely I am buying from Northridge... Bumper? No brainer... Wheels? same.

How anyone bashes them escapes me completely. I guess I get that some folks have a bad experience sometimes, but to argue price? If the thing you're ordering is over $100 and over about 15 pounds, its pretty much always cheaper with Northridge. And I've never had anyone there answer the phone and not know what they are talking about. I can't say that for others.

I'd like to see someone post a genuine gripe here... with details... WHY are they unhappy... Because I've never even had a hint that those guys would burn me, even once..

And... no, I don't work there, but I would, if they could afford me.

I love northridge4x4, I've bought from them before and will continue to but I'm just saying watch the prices and be a smart consumer. Here is the example I have:

LOD bumper I'm interested in:

Northridge is $785 shipped
LOD is $735 for the bumper + $99 shipping = $834
Another vendor is $714.97 for the bumper + $99 shipping = $783.98 or use their 10% coupon and its $708.47 shipped.

No company is just going to eat shipping cost on items, it just doesn't make financial sense but its an awesome marketing gimmick.

I do give them props on items like a Warn winch where their pricing is 100% the same as everyone else however they throw in close to $200 in freebies with it, hands down the best deal on Warn winches.

Fair enough, but to be completely honest.. for the TWO DOLLAR difference, I'd deal with Northridge. If we are seriously talking 10th's of a percent, I'm sticking by what I said above. :-D
