I am assuming you will have to retune after installation.

I wouldn't think so. It doesn't change the length of the antenna does it? The change in length of line may change the tuning very slightly but I wouldn't think it would be totally necessary to retune. I could be totally wrong though.

To the OP:

How does it work? Both signals all the time or do you switch it? What if you are listening to the radio and try to speak through your CB? Do they both work? Its a really good idea, I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.

I would think you would have to retune for the fact that you have the increased line legnth and the resistance in the splitter itself. Not to mention, that almost every 2way radio setup does not have the same ant feed line length. Some may, if they use whatever is in the box.

I would be intereted in the performance during simultaneous use. Given they are different frequencies there shouldn't be interference. However, the TX/RX issue and wattage passed through on TX from the CB, may or may not interupt FM RX. This is what I would be interested in knowing.

Yes, I would recommend re-tuning after installation. This system is supposed to let you use your CB and AM/FM radio at the same time with no issues. If you remember the old Firestik AR-1A, this is the same thing. I would be happy to let one go if someone wanted to test it and share their results with the community.

We just had a price drop on the CB/AM/FM Antenna splitter. Now only $24.95!!! Use your CB antenna to get better reception than the stock AM/FM antenna.

Partial review from The_Dealer.....

"It works great, I can get channels that were fuzzy before. I haven't gotten a chance to play the radio and use the CB at the same time, but ill be doing that tomorrow! Im putting together install pictures to do a review on it. I couldn't believe how big of an improvement there was over the factory antenna. I actually removed the factory antenna and put my CB antenna in its place. I did have to adjust the swr." The_Dealer

Hopefully he will have the full review posted soon.

I have been using a different version of this for over a year and the splitter works great. I took off the factory antenna and covered it with a Trail Rated badge, looks real clean and workes just like this one should.

Sounds like a good idea. Where did you get the badge, from a Mopar dealer or ?

Why did I not see this sooner! I put in a 5" stubby, then I get the wrong antenna adapter and when I finally get the new one, I'm not happy with it... This will be perfect.

Maybe one of the resident CB experts will join this thread and share their insight into this/these type of products.

Another competitive product's webpage says this about installation...

"Inasmuch as the CB requires a tuned antenna, we recommend tuning the antenna to acquire the best SWR match before installing the (splitter)."

FTL was nice enough to agree to send me one, it should be here monday. I also just ordered a SWR meter and should be here mid week as well. I currently have the Firestik version and just from online comparison, the firestik version is a plastic housing. When I installed it initially, I had to take the box apart and re-solder one of the connections. I like how this one, according to the website picture, is a metal housing. More comparison and install pictures to come as soon as I get everything and the time to do it.

I havent had the chance to really get into doing all this, but I was able to get some comparison shots. As you can see, the Firestik version (my old version) is a plastic housing. I had to tape it because I had to open it so I could re-solder a connection that was broken when I opened it initially. I like the new version ALOT better with the metal box. One thing I did notice, is that the Firestik version has a fine tune adjustment knob, issue is, I dont really know what kind of fine tuning you would actually need to do. I still need to retune my CB as I installed a 4ft antenna in place of my 3ft, so when the weather cooperates and I can get the chance to, I will finish up and take more install pictures and post them for anyone interested. If you have any specific questions in the mean time, feel free to PM me.
