Angry HID kit woes

I needed better headlights on my jk but I don't have the cash for Speakers so I thought I'd try a set of HIDs. I bought cheap ones since I will eventually get some quality lights but these HIDs are strange. The low beams are actually very good after I adjusted them down a bit. Nice white wide beam and a huge improvement over stock. Overall, I'm happy with the the low beams. The problem arises when I switch to high beams. This is a $139 kit, so the high beams are halogen and totally junk. The light seems to point up in the air. None of it hits the ground. In a remote Parking lot the highs light up the trees lining the edge of the lot. Can the factory reflectors be that bad for high beam while doing a good job with HID lows or did I just get what I paid for? Btw, I had to buy two inline capacitors to eliminate flicker adding another $40 to the cost. With taxes I'm almost at half the cost of a pair of truck-lites.

No. The cheaper kits have a low hid beam and a halogen high beam in one housing similar to the standard hi/lo beam bulb that comes stock. It would be ok if I got some useable light from high side of the bulbs. Low beams are quite good.

I have never seen this before in a wrangler, could you take a photo of the housing?

You needed to order a Bi Xenon kit. I ordered a $35 HID kit of eBay and it's the same way, low beams are HID, hi beams are halogen. Only option is to buy replacement hid bulbs, or return the kit if you still can. Most of the kits are junk, and $139 is a lot unless you got something like the Morimoto kit. Does your kit have a separate harness that also connects to the battery?

Only using the HIDs until I save up for a Rally Lights kit.

I def don't have a morimoto kit and there is no connection to the battery. It came with two ballasts, two plug in harnesses, and the bulbs. I had to buy two inline capacitors to stop the flicker also. My intent was to do a cheap upgrade until I can get LEDs but I have no useable high beams so that was a stupid mistake.

I'll see if I can get a pic later today.

Not sure if you can see or not but there is a white plastic part at the base of the bulb. It is the mount for the high beam. It is held in place with two little screws but there are four screw holes. Using the other two screw holes to mount the high beam bulb would invert the bulb 180 degrees. Would that stop the light from projecting upward and make it useable? I'm really stumped here.

Yeah man, I have never seen that setup before. My understanding would be to have the low beam on the top so when it bounces off the reflector, it would how down. And have the halogen part on the bottom so the beam will go up. I only know of a bixenon kit that uses a magnet to move the hotspot of the lamp. Are you in CA? Maybe the halogen is a drl (daytime running light)?

That's why I thought rotating the high filament might help. I'm in Canada and it did come with drls but that's not what the yellow portion is for. Instructions say hid low and halogen high beam kit. There's a warning on the box saying installing this kit may disable the drls on some vehicles. If the low beams didn't work so well I would have already returned the kit.

Update

The shop gave me a refund since they were unable to solve the poor hi beam performance issue. Lesson learned. Think ill just order a pair of truck lites.
