Mopar License plate

Has any of you installed one of these license plates that goes on the side next to the stop light?
http://www.quadratec.com/products/55004_1200.htm

Am i going to have to drill something?
How does the thing gets the electricity to light?

Thanks

2013 as well. But it is not there...
Did yours come with it already installed or as a separate thing?

It was already installed and they transferred my plate right over to it upon delivery.

Here's an old picture but you can see it on mine (left).

Crap mine does not have it. It has thelicense plate bracket below the rear bumper. I need to install a rack for bicycles so i need to move the kicense plate to the side. But I asked them if the holder maybe came with the car as part of the extra stuff and they said no.

Anyway I plan to buy it fron mopar. Just wondering what kind of install it is. I hate having to drill...

Btw The color of your jeep is very cool lol. Thanks

I just looked at mine. There are two screws that I see under the license plate. Looking at your picture, there is a black cover where the license plate goes.. I'm not sure if the two screws I see go into a bracket of some sort that snaps into the black cover/hole you have?

I'm pretty sure the side license plate is the standard location on a JK...

There are two square holes under the license plate delete plug and two right above the rear bumper. These holes accept metal inserts to screw the plate mount into. Just took mine out when I moved my plate.

Seaker is right - the black "plug" on the left comes off and the plate holder goes in there. There are two screw that hold the plate holder to the Jeep.

Without taking mine apart, I can't remember where the screws actually go.

Think I'd take a trip to the dealer and have them "fix" it under your warranty...or at least talk to them about it. That's definitely not a "stock" set up.

Looks like a European bumper. Maybe that's the standard mounting location overseas.

That is an export bumper. I had the same. The export jeep was better in some ways during 2011, but the rear bumper is horrible. The license plate thing catches ever ledge and sand dune. It eventually ripped off the plastic bumper.

My solution was to just cut that part off and throw it away (my first and only mod) and then I just drilled and riveted the license plate back on to the left. A crude and ugly solution, but the rear bumper is secured with bungie cords anyway. I actually bought a stock USA rear bumper to put on, but I'm waiting until the desert finally takes the export bumper as it has the front plastic skid plate. Then I will install the us bumper and license plate holder.

Thanks guys I dont have my jeep yet, the dealer is preparing it and they expect de deliver next wed. but I am hoping that under that black plug there is a clean provision to install the license bracket. But I am going to have to buy the darn bracket from mopar which is around $100...

The bracket was out of stock and this was just the easiest solution I could do with zero expense and bs, and keep going out in the desert.

Note: It took a couple of months and maybe 200 good hits going over sharp dunes to totally knock off the bumper. It should last a little while so don't be afraid to go off road. The license plate tab is flexible and will bend. Your license plate will be bent out, but the bumper should hold up for a little while and it won't get the whole Jeep stuck or something.

If I were you guys, I'd relocate the plate to the spare tire.

Good idea and I had a well made relocation bracket in my hands ready to buy. Only thing that stopped me was that I sometimes use the spare tire to carry light things like trash on the way back and maybe kindling on the way out, and the bag totally covers the tire. I don't know if it fits with the rack the original poster wants, but if so it's a nice way to move the license plate. Is less likely to be ripped off in that spot.

If you guys post pics of the light and light connection for the export bumper, I could tell you if it fits the US plate bracket light. I'm guessing it runs along the driver's side tub, down behind the taillight and to the bumper light the hitch harness would travel. If that's the case, you just need to bring the wire back to the tail light and install the US plate holder. IIRC it took 4 screws and 4 clips.

Warrior Products and Hard Rock Off road make brackets. You'll mant the ORO tag light to light up the plate at night.
