Hi, just joined the forum having taken delivery of a 2014 Amp'd JKU and would like to know a bit about upgrading the lighting..
I'm likely to stay with halogen sources, and am thinking of going with the Susquehanna Motorsports Hella E-Code H13 to H4 conversions for the headlights and with something like the Hella HL95290 Rallye FF500 driving light kit. The driving lights will be mounted on the Mopar light bar (which I understand is made by Rugged Ridge.)
Those would probably work fine for the northern Michigan woods where I'll be looking to see the deer before they step into my path...but if you think another pair of driving lights would be better, please comment.
My main question concerns the wiring -- I've read enough on the forum about CANbus issues that I'm a bit worried about the straightforward wiring required.
With the E-Code conversions, SMS sells a wiring harness that will prevent flicker with LED lights. I figure I'll get that to be prepared for LEDs down the road some day, and it looks pretty 'plug & play.'
So with halogen driving lights -- do I need to worry about CANbus issues? They would be connected directly to the battery, but the relay will be drawing from the high-beam wiring in most installation scenarios. Is that a CANbus issue?
Any, er, light shed on these issues is welcome! Of course, I'll be calling SMS for their advice, but this seems to be a question others might have an interest in so I'm posting it here as well.
