I want black headlights and fog lights. My Jeep is all black and I would liek to keep with that theme. I have many questions and I hope maybe someone will be kind enough to help me. Plus I am trying to do this on the phone app, which just makes it super hard.

1) where do I find black headlights and fog lights that are legal and bright
2) what should I be paying...saw just the headlights for $800...that is not cheap and I won't pay that.
3) are they easy to install?
4) If they are LED, can I just plug and go or do I need extra parts and stuff to convert it?
5) I did look up JW speakers but didn't see prices. I saw some others for cheaper but it wasn't for my year of jeep....does it matter?
6) Didn't even find fog lights....do they exist?

I know nothing about headlights or replacing headlights or fog light or anything. So please talk to me like i am 4 years old.
The JW Speaker 8700 evolutions would work great for you; they are very easy to install. You'd want a harness to make them not flicker though. River Raider might take pity on you and sell them at a decent price. Susquehanna Motorsports could make you a good harness or Daniel Stern could make you a somewhat better one.

JWS also makes the 6050 foglight which is the only LED foglight that I know of that works well; it matches their headlight and would need a similar harness from either Stern or SMS.

Cost? Good lights, safe, follows the letter of the law (the newer version of it too), looks good, and you never have to replace a bulb afterward...

Take a look at everything on a real computer. It will help you make up your mind.

I thought I'd go easy for now and just change out the bulbs. Yeah, right. Easy. There will be a special place in for whomever made the bulbs so hard to get to.

I know, right? It's worth just doing the headlamp swap instead of just the bulbs.

So that's what I did this evening!

Everything went without a hitch. Hardest part was being anal about finding a way to discreetly run the wires for the rallylights harness, and attaching the relays to the side firewall. Neither was difficult, just a little time consuming as I like to do stuff right the first time.

It's like Lasik for Jeeps. Here's a photo mid-surgery.

Now to adjust the headlights (they're too high) and I'll be set!

I wanna upgrade to H4 headlights in my 2012 JKUR. Someone told me I only needed the bulbs, but I'm seeing a lot about conversion kits. What's the story? Can I just do a simple bulb replacement or do I need something more than just the bulb?

You will need to replace the lamp assy and add a custom wiring harness. Check rallylights.com or Daniel Stern Lighting.

What about Sylvania Silverstars? How bright would they be compared with an H4?

I have all of them my regular lights are HID and my fog lights are LED and the driving lights are the PIAA 520 halogen lights. The HID driving lights are really bright and I was blinding people i put the Black covers over them and it makes a world of difference and i can still see fine. Best part is when I go off roading i pop the covers off and I can light up the trail light it is daylight.

I have Silver Stars and PIAA 520 ATP driving lights. The Silver Stars are marginally better than stock, ok for my needs. The PIAA's are connected to come on with my high beams. They are substantially better. Cibie headlights w/h4 bulbs are fantastic. Trucklight led lights are as good, but more expensive.

Thanks!
I also got the Vision X LED replacement fog light kit and they are bright like an arc welder. Put them this afternoon.
Not true plug and play, but more like cut, splice, plug and play.
How hard would it be to ship a couple pairs of adapters for the two most common wiring harnesses for true plug and play?

100% get the Truck-Lite and Vision X for your Jeep.
It's all about safety, seeing and being seen.

I have the truck-Lites and love them! They are military grade lights and that sold me.
I suppose the Speaker lights are good too but I have the Truck-Lites and I am very pleased with them.

I took the advice of another member here and got the Vision X replacement fog/driving lights. They are bright as the sun!
Get the Vision X!

I tried the LED bulb replacement for the fog lights and was underwhelmed on the performance.
I bought the Vision X fog light replacement and now I am happy with the results.

Vision X
LED and HID Reverse Lights
*They also have an HID option...
A good choice if you need them.
I just went to SuperBright's site and got two LED bulbs that work very well.
However, I can see you wanting some LED pods or a LED bar for the back up lights.
I have replaced every bulb and light I can with LEDs.
I'm very pleased with the results.

Truck-Lites

And photos taken at the racetrack on the night we tested the JW Speaker lights. These pics make for an easier comparison to the competing lights.
The artifact caused by the prerunner bar cannot be seen while driving; the photo sees more than the driver.

Lowbeam

Highbeam
I do believe that the "X" in the photo is caused by the intersection of the inside and outside of the inner and outer sections of beams crossing out front of the Jeep.
I've seen something similar in regular sealed beam headlights.
I haven't noticed the "X" in my Truck-Lites...are you sure they are aimed properly?

Hilldweller mentioned the X shadow is from a prerunner bar.

I have been wanting some HID lights in my JK. I am a little spoiled as my other car is a TL and they have a great headlight system. I saw these on the site I get my stuff from for the TL Mopar Specific: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Component Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc Thoughts? The trucklights seem nice too but i don't want some flicker issue .. Ghetto.

The white "x" at 50 yards is cased by the shape of the LEDs and is an intrinsic artifact of the device; no big deal to me but some other folks are bothered by it.

The black "X" in the foreground is from the prerunner bar and can't be seen by the driver while driving.
Other lights don't do this but other lights don't have such a nice wide swath of light...

Regarding your Morimoto post, I'm unable to reply fully/honestly to this question due to the limitations imposed by the forum.
If you'll post it on Candlepower Forum you'll get a thorough answer by knowledgeable people.

And to address the questions about PIAA and Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, they are NEVER your best choice for performance.
Read this.
The best H13 replacement bulbs continue to be Phillips Xtreme Power H13.
An H4 retrofit with Cibies would be the best halogen answer; a full harness is needed and shouldn't be considered a hassle.
The new Trucklites and JW Speakers are awesome; until Trucklite releases their improved dongle, a full harness is a good idea for them as well.
And the Valeo/Sylvania XE7 is a drop-in HID solution; bucket mods, slight mod to the airbag sensor, & full harness needed ---- do this one at your own risk for those reasons.

Everything reviewed and explained HERE

Thanks so much for your input sir! I know i want to remain as legal as possible so may just save up for the Truck-Lites. The way that the projectors I was looking at with actual Balasts was going to run about 700 so at that point might as well get the speaker bulbs. I saw a few videos on youtube showing the output of the Truck-Lites and I think that would be ok? they are uber bright! And i like not having to replace the bulbs *since they dont burn out* Curious if the set for sale on QuadraTec includes everything I need? I hear about flicker (and there was a video of that online as well) but i didnt see anything? Hilldweller you rock!
