1998 TJ needs frame swap, feeler

I have a 1998 TJ 4.0 6-cylinder 5-speed manual transmission jeep with 158,xxx miles on it. The frame just snapped a week ago due to rusting (see pic), so the Jeep needs a frame swap. Other than that it is a clean running jeep. I am looking to get a feel for how much it is worth to someone looking to put a new frame on it and have a nice running Jeep. I'm not going to list a price, let me know what you think it would be worth to you and make an offer if you are interested. If it turns out it's worth next to nothing I will figure out how to do a frame swap with some college friends.

The Jeep has had a new battery, alternator, and starter solenoid, and front brake pads installed in the past 6 months. In February it got new 31" Duratrac tires that have less than 1000 miles on them. Currently running the bestop safari top with wraparound windjammer and duster cover, I have the soft top hardware but the top itself got torn. Also includes a mesh top for the summer. Aftermarkert Sony stereo w/ aux in, connected to 2x 12" subs, a homemade soundbar with 6x9's, and 5.25 speakers in the dash. Feel free to ask questions, I'm mostly feeling out it's price to see if its worth doing a frame swap on my own. Reasonable offers will be considered. Jeep located in Lebanon, NJ 08833.

Last TJ I bought that had a trashed frame, I paid $1300 for. The tub wasn't in as nice of condition as the one you have, but it's basically a collection of parts with a rusted frame.

Thanks mattamd for the info, not what I was hoping to hear but that's the number I was looking to figure out. Unless anyone has anything different to add it looks like I'm off to buy a frame!

That is a relatively easy fix on the frame. I have had it done on 2 tjs. Quadratec sells the replacement part for like $200 and worst case for a shop to weld it would be $500. Then you could sell the jeep for at least $5k.

But if you are willing to sell it for $1300. Send me a pm and consider it sold.

I wish it just needed the one patch; the frame is rotted to the point that it needs two of those quadratec parts on each side to feel safe about driving. I added it out to be roughly 800 just for the parts, then having someone weld it is a couple hundred more. Swapping the entire frame started looking like a more realistic and proper fix.

I'm not looking to give the Jeep away, was hoping someone would have a frame nearby and have done enough swaps to make it an easy switch for them.

Got some good feedback from a lot of people by posting this, thanks for reading. I've decided I'm going to do a frame swap on the Jeep. And on that note this thread can be moved to the archives, or wherever old threads go. Best of luck everyone on your Jeep purchases!
