Also is there metal to paint on the backing of them or is there a foam padding on the back?

I'm sorry to chim in on this.I have a set of relocation brackets by Ruged Ridge and I find them very usefull and easy to install. They are painted on the back and there is no foam padding. They don't look weird and do not sit too low. They are best to use doorless and half doors.

They are nice I agree but they are in my buddies jeep and he don't like them. But hey if he wants to get rid of them I'll help him out.

And yes chris is right, no padding but are painted black

I leave the brackets on when it's time to switch to hard doors and put the mirrors on the hard doors.

No scratches. If your worried about that I'd get you a thin piece foam paper, cut to size and put back there.
