In looking at some of the pictures, it looks like the mounts for the carrier hinge mount to the vehicle behind the tailgate hinges (between the body and the tailgate hinges). Is there any concern over the tailgate alignment? It seems like that would/could alter the sealing ability of the tailgate to the body of the vehicle.

The tailgate didn't move in relationship to the Tub. The Pivot plates go behind the hinge on the Tub side and Spacers plates behing the hinge on the Tailgate side. We installed one hinge at a time to maintain the alignment. The gate remained closed and latched for almost the entire install.

With the jack mount and shovel mount attached and loaded, is there plenty of clearance with the tailgate fully open, before hitting the taillight ?
Just to confirm, the tailgate and tire-mount swing open as one unit using one hand ?

Product looks well thought out.
Thanks for your help.
There is plenty of clearence between the Lift/lift mount and the tail light. I also have the factory light guards on with no clearance issues.

Thanks, I didn't see spacers on the tailgate side. That makes sense.

I like the concept and the design. I just have a few questions. Is the tub structurally strong enough to carry the weight of the carrier and an oversized spare? Is the tub reinforced behind the hinge area? Thanks

There is a pretty substantial plate behind the Tub that the Hinge Bolts go to.
I have read some where the mount points can take a 200# load.
Been trying to find someone in the Body group at work to verify that.

Good question! LOL We didn't leave it on, as it wasn't powder coated yet.

I didn't even look, but based on the Rotopax website, I believe they are two Gallon. Eye balling the size in the picture I'm thinking it makes sense to the following.

All 2 Gallon Packs are 18.5 x 13.5 x 3 inches.

There's also another mount that replaces the shovel for another can or two more cans if you replace the Hi-lift and shovel.

Would be a lot cooler (in my best Matthew McConaughey voice) if you could add a vertical ski/snowboard carrier, somehow, someway.

How much flex is there in the swing arm under load? Meaning, how much does the weight of a wheel cause it to sag? I notice that you have a C-shaped seat on the tailgate for the arm to rest in when the door is closed. Does that rest actually help support the weight of the arm and tire, or does it only serve to keep things tight and rattle-free? If I were to unhook the carrier from the tailgate and swing it freely, then return it to the closed position, would the swing arm come to rest perfectly back in the C-shaped seat, or would it have to be lifted slightly to seat correctly? Hope this makes sense.

That does make sense. The Seat takes a slight Fore/Aft load with the turnbuckle properly adjusted to keep things rattle free. The turnbuckle is basically a double heim joint that carries no vertical load at all. As the tailgate starts to open the carrier pulls away from the Seat. This is because of the two seperate centerlines of pivot.

So short answer to your question. There is no sag. I think mainly because of the one piece tube design and the Vertical tie bars across it. I'll ask Joe if they have a video. If not, maybe one of my kids can get a video of the action posted somewhere. (I don't have the technology) LOL

I also was showing to someone and we grabbed the top of the high lift and pulled back there was no flexing at the hinge mounts either. It's Stout.

LOL that should be their slogan.

Maximus-3................ It's Stout!

This is awesome!
The description says Jerry can mounts, but I see no examples of this. Is it still possible?

I haven't seen the Jerry Can mounts yet. They did test fit the Dual Roto-pax on mine last week.

Seeing how busy they are maybe the Jerry Can mounts are taking a back seat for the moment.

I ordered mine yesterday. I have the front setup for the front bumper and I can't wait to install this. I'm in desperate need of a tire carrier.

I ordered 2 weeks ago and was told 2 weeks. Nothing yet. Also, my card has not been charged yet, so assuming charged when ready to ship.

I just spoke with them today actually. They said orders will start being shipped on Wed and some on Fri. Your card will be charged at the time of shipment, which is how it has worked in the past for me.

I called today and talked to them.
The first 10 have shipped and they are kitting up the next load.
They hired someone to get the kits together with the basics pieces, and then they can grab the extras as they are ordered and get them out much quicker.

Between this and the Stinger they have been slammed.

Thanks for the update. I'm really excited about my tire carrier. Need it ASAP!!!

Installed mine over the weekend...highly recommend you read the instructions a few times. Made some recommendations to Joe on areas the instructions could be improved.....there's a couple of places where a minor thing will be a gotcha later. If I didn't call Joe and he explained it to me, I would not have known.

ie. the Washers that go under the two hinges as you thread the pins through have one side that is beveled. Had he not said that, I would not have noticed that beveled edge needs to be faced downwards so it doesn't scratch the powder coating off the hinge bracket as you open and close the tailgate later - and that would be a royal pain to go back and fix later.

Also, don't rush the pin/rear carrier install - it's very easy to tighten the brackets on and then try to install the rear carrier trying to thread the pins through. What's not clear is you really need to have those brackets lose and THEN after installing the pins, go back and tighten the brackets. They recommend not tightening them without explaining why.

Also, the shovel mount - if you have a shovel that doesn't have a wooden handle and/or has a rubber end to it, it'll be too large for the bottom brace. Appears at one point they had two knob/screw tighteners for the shovel handle and then did away with the bottom one for a fixed width version to keep the handle tight. So, if your shovel handle is "out of spec" you may not be able to fit it in. Again, all the notes I typed up were sent to Joe last night on each step suggesting some minor edits to the instructions which would help others. There were a couple of other minor things I wrote up - can't remember them now as I head out the door for work.

Enjoy yours when it arrives! :-)
