I replaced my chrome bumpers and took off my chrome grill because 1. I don't like chrome 2. its for hunting and if I can't find a hiding spot I don't want it scaring away those fun to call coyotes.
I put on tube bumpers because I like the look but I have changed the rear and I'm looking for a front (cheap) so that it is 'trail rated'. There was no place for tow hooks with my tube bumpers and I would like to get a winch too.

You can get a winch on tube bumpers. I was looking at a front bumper with a winch plate on quadratec the other day (that is the one I a thinking about purchasing...just hoping to find it local so I won't need to pay shipping). The tube bumpers seem like they would do well on the trail just as much as the other bumpers. You are right that you lose the tow hooks but I am sure you could strap a line striaght to the those tube bumpers if you needed to be hooked up. I'm assuming they are strong enough...if not somebody please correct me cus I would like to know if I am assuming wrong lol

Everything on this list should be on this list, with the exception of the light guards,
I have a set of these and have gotten some very good use out of them. No telling how many cracked lenses these things have saved me. The overhead light bars are ridiculous, put your lights on the windshield hinges or the bumper where they belong.

I've seen lots of Jeeps with lights on the windshield area. Does that eliminate putting the windshield down when you want to?

That's because YOU have them, that makes it OK.

I have a light bar - and I use it as well as curse it... and I think IT is OK, if I WANT it to be..

It works beautifully for when I need a lot of light. You may not think that it looks cool, hell I may not think that it looks cool, but I really don't give a rip what ANYONE thinks, it's MY damn Jeep, I spent MY damn money on MY damn light bar and I think it's quite useful! I have used it for lighting up the area during trail repairs, chopping firewood, setting up camp and tormenting drunk buddies after they pass out in their tent.

It's even a lot of fun to drive up to the front of someone's Jeep at camp who has fallen asleep in their jeep, hit the lights and lay on the horn! It works nicely for pruning overhead brush and limbs on the trail and makes a mighty fine bug catcher as well.

EXCELLENT for spotting deer and chasing trespassers off the property!

Yea, light bars are KEWEL!!!!!

So STFU about it already!

Can't fold the windshield when I want to and still have light, obstruct my forward view at speed, and catch too damned many rocks at speed when following the competition (soon to be passed, I'm sure).

Different needs for different types of wheeling. Ever seen a rock crawler being driven on the highway? Looks kind of retarded doing 55+.

I like your light bar Kate. I like how it can fold the lights downward to protect them when they aren't needed and when going through the trails.

I like to put pirate stickers on my Jeep and anyone that thinks it is dumb can kiss my arrrrrrrrrse.

Does anyone else find it funny that most people are up-in-arms about being told that something they have on their Jeep isn't someone else's idea of useful? Some of you say you don't care what other people think about your rig, but then you go on to defend it tooth-and-nail. I built my Jeep (and I'm still building, it never ends) to MY likes and MY needs. I couldn't possibly care less if any of you like it or not. It's not that I don't value your opinion (I do), it's just that different people have different tastes and needs, not to mention $$$$. I don't take ANYTHING negative any of you say about the mods I've done to my Jeep personal because it's MY Jeep and I love my Jeep.

Maybe some of you can just accept that some of your mods aren't going to be met with the same enthusiasm that you have for that mod. Don't take it personal. No one is under attack.

That being said.......let's see if Cave can practice what he preaches. Feel free to trash any of my mods. Go ahead. It won't bother me.

And here's some more ammo for you all......I just added some Genright G3 tube fenders, as well as high-clearance rear tube fender flares (all painted body color), and front 2.5" amber LED turn signals mounted in my grille, CJ-style. Flame away!!

Oh man.... you did it now.
You took of those perfectly good factory designed fenders and trashed your Jeep with AFTERMARKET ??!!

The shame of it all!

LOL.... how about some pretty pics of those new fenders!

It's funny, no matter what you drive or ride, there's a forum group for it and in each one of them there will be a 'dumbest' list. I've had SeaDoo's and joined their group only to eventually run into an article or some thread with a bunch of infighting about what is and what's not 'cool'. And it's the same with my Harley, which always makes me wonder, "Do these articles get written or started simply for the purpose of stirring everyone up?"

I guess I'm still waiting to see what the perfect SeaDoo, Harley-Davidson, Jeep, etc. actually looks like so we'll all know and put the whole issue to bed.

Too many good threads to quote, E.Richardson is on to something. The author has made us all spend a lot of time talking about HIS article and this list.......BRAVO. It's all good stuff.
Personally though I think he got beet on the trail by someone with some of these trinkets and is venting.

-EDIT- I posted some pics in the TJ Picture Forum since I couldn't add the pics to my Jeep profile. They're crappy pics, but I'll get some better ones posted sometime this weekend.

Interesting list... Should the "Rock" shifter knobs have made the list or no? Cuz I was considering one of those, and I don't want to be "un cool".

Now... about my chrome girlle, front bumper, and rear bumperetes??? Being the novice that I am, and wanting a YJ for the square headlights & old school interior... what can I do about my chrome(which I didn't even have an opinion on when I bought the Jeep) in order to fit in? lol

But seriously... The longer I have the Jeep the more the chrome just doesn't "fit".

If you like it, that's all that counts, chrome or not. Not many people like the tube bumper I have on my JK, but I do. I could have bought any bumper I wanted to, but that's the one I wanted.

There's a guy that lives near me that drives around a 2000 JEEP TJ Catalog and sometimes I just want to pull him from his JEEP and slap him. For those who don't know what a JEEP Catalog is it's the guy who bought everything in the Pep Boys Catalog and put it on his JEEP. Ugghhh!

All I know is that I am finding all of the OEM add on goodies like: front tow hooks, driving lights, rear tuff-box compartment, etc. for pennies compared to 'dealer pricing' on CList from all you guys who HAVE to have the chromies, and the KC's, etc...so, all I got to say is THANKS!! I am going to have a truly 'fully-loaded' Jeep for cheep!!!

^^^^I've sold TONS of take-offs on Craigslist and eBay from my Jeep. You're welcome.
