1986 Jeep J20, thoughts?

Was looking to buy a 1980s Ford or Chevy truck for a 2nd vehicle bc would like to have a truck and could turn my Jeep into a trailer queen but came across this J20. Going to look at it in a few hours, will take pics. How hard is it to find parts for this and would you do it? They look great when fixed up, and is a rare find IMO but how reliable will it be, stupid question? WHat are some of you jeep experts thoughts?

Dana 60 rear 44 front
no rust(according to owner)
A/c works just needs freon(again owner)
asking price 3k OBO he had it on there a month ago at 3500 and dropped the price.

if it's decent, go for it. the j20 will have a hell of a lot more character than any vanilla ford or chevy. but, parts are probably a lot more scarce for the j20, so make sure it's all there.

I had an 85 J10 about 10 years ago and loved it. Wish I hadn't sold it. Replacement parts weren't too bad to find as I remember. Go for it, they're great trucks.

Thanks y'all, just talked to him he said he just put a 4" lift a year ago and has 37 military tires on it. That makes me a little nervous but claims he's selling it bc hes never had time to "play" with it so the lift hasn't been used.......how many times have you heard that?

I just got rid of my 84 J10 a 2 years ago because the parts market was getting scarce. Body parts were getting harder to find, but mechanical parts are found easily. Cab and bed parts are almost impossible to find. You can use some of the wagoneer panels if you get crafty, but I had alot of problems getting stuff. Some of the places where I got fenders, flares, door skins, and rockers, no longer could get them because the demand is so low, so they went out of production. You can still get fenders and a place in Canada makes bed sides, but they are no where near up to spec to just "replace". JW jeep has beds and cabs, but way too high for what they have. Not to be a "Debbie Downer", but make sure the J is in good condition body wise. Look under the floors and behind the seat and especially the cab and bed mounts. They tend to crush easily with just a little rust. Also all the frames on the J series rust out just behind the rear axle back spring hanger. Had 2 do that, but again, I'm in the North. Look it over and go from there...

Here was my1984 J10 back in 1997:
