1995 Wrangler Cranks but will not fire

I have a 1995 4cyl wrangler. I have replaced rotor, cap, plugs and wires. Starter went out 2 weeks ago. Had it tested and it was dead. Put a new one in and works great. The last week I have a new problem......It cranks like crazy but does not fire/start. Always happens first thing in the morning. After that it starts fine the rest of the day as long as it is not sitting for a long time. Sometimes in the morning when it is cranking but not firing I will pump the gas pedal once or twice and then it will start. This morning, before going to work, I went into the garage and it started right up. An hour later when i went to leave for work it would not start at all. Cranks, cranks, cranks, but will not fire and this time did not start. Is this my fuel pump? Is this think really located in the gas tank??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Kent. I would say yes it could be your fuel pump but I have also seen the fuel regulator do this also. Do you here it kick on? (fuel pump) As far as pumping the gas that one time and it started I would say it was a fluke.

go to advanced auto parts and buy a manual there cheap
that way you can use the flow charts to help with diagnosis
look in the front of the book like
hard to start cold
engine spins but wont crank
no start condition
good luck

yes I here it click on and also can hear a punch of clicking noise from where the fuel pump relay is located. I replaced that tonight and now starts up. I notice that it takes about 5 seconds for the fuel pump to kick and then the check engine light comes on and the jeep starts right up.
