2010 Commander Sport 4X4

Okay guys, My wife has wanted this vehicle for quite some time now. I found one at a local Stealership for $23K. It has 30K miles, roughly above what it should have on average. The Jeep is really nice. Silver and black interior. We need the extra space because we are expecting our third little rugrat.

We are sacrificing a few luxury components that our current family vehicle has. I have read all the consumer reviews, and as expected, they weren't too good. Basically lack of torque for a 3.7L 6 cylinder engine. Other than that, pretty decent reviews. My wife is down with the Jeep thing and all, and she is completely aware of poor gas mileage and all it's supposed "ruggedness."

We simply need more room now. Plus, we don't mind a lower payment than what we have now for a "family" vehicle. Anyway, what do you all think? I don't mind negative comments.....I just want to make sure I am making a good and/or decent investment. Thanks guys....

I can't speak for the Commander, but I have a 2008 Liberty with the same 3.7 engine and it is great. No issues whatsoever.

do yourself a favor and keep looking for one with a V8. the commander is so big and heavy that the V6 just doesn't cut (on road or off). i am not of the go big or go home philosophy, i just know that the xk with the V6 is not a desirable set up to have. my hubby has an xk and is on an xk forum; most of the guys on there are not off road enthusiasts and rarely (if ever) take them off road. the guys on there with the V6 complain non stop about how under powered that engine is in their uber-heavy rides. most of them bought them because they thought the V6 was more fuel efficient.... it's NOT. the V6, V8, and Hemi V8 all get the same mpg ratings. as i said before, because the xk is so heavy, the v6 is too under powered and sluggish (even for normal driving and accelerating).

Thanks! And you're absolutely right! We drove it home for the night and I could already tell, or feel, the lack of power! Especially while accelerating from a complete stop. I will definitely look around for the V8. I find it extremely disconcerting that there are SOOOO many negative reviews about this particular vehicle. Damn! Anyone on here have any reviews and/or comments from personal use about this vehicle? Thanks in advance!

the commander is a great vehicle, just avoid the V6. my hubby got his new in 2006, and loves it. it has had no problems with it. he tows my cj with it, unhooks the trailer, and then wheels it. the ride is comfortable (even with the lift he put on); the v8 can tow quite a load; there is plenty of cargo room; they are very safe for toting the kiddos (or dog in our case); i can't think of any negatives to it.

I have a Commander with the 4.7 V8 and love it. It has a 2" lift and 265/70/17 Kelly TSR's. The type of 4 wheel drive system you choose makes a difference too.

i got BETTER mileage with my 5.7 hemi magnum than the v6 magnums would get. the more highway driving you do, the more you should look for a hemi. take it for what it's worth.

My family has a commander (4.7 V8), I love it! It feels like your driving a tank. The only thing I don't like is the huge third row seating. It eats up so much of your cargo space. We ended up taking it out and leaving in the garage, made a big difference in cargo space.

I greatly appreciate all your responses!! Thank you! I personally LOVE the Commander.....so does my wife. I'm just bummed about the lack of power the V6 puts out. All reviews about the V6 commander are the same....."poor V6 engine." Anyway, I'm gonna go ahead and take it back right now, and possibly look for a V8. Wish me luck guys!

Come to think of it, I think they discontinued the 4.7 V8 in 08 or 09. Which leaves you with the Hemi 5.7 V8 which should give you more than enough power. Like I said ours is the 4.7, and I've never felt that it was under powered, even while towing. I can only imagine what driving the hemi would feel like! SO GOOD LUCK!
