2011 Wrangler....painted hard top?

Has anyone seen this?

Color matched hard top? Personally I don't like it. Seems like it would be tougher to store without scratching it. In other words not as rugged.

But that's just my opinion.

IMO, hard tops are not needed. They are hard to remove and troublesome to store.

just another way the JK's are becoming more "soccer mom" friendly.

TJ hard tops are painted (not color matched and the photo looks like is is the same gloss as the body). TJ tops can be scratched just the same. I have seen photos of a couple TJ where the owners did pain to match their tops. I think they looked good.

There's already a thread on this in the JK section.

2011 factory painted hardtops

Does anyone know if the body colored hardtop on the new 2011 Wranglers are the same fiberglass as the black ones or if they are a different material to make them shine like the rest of the body? I'm looking at a new Mango Tango and wondered how the color matched top would hold up without fading different from the body.

Also, new here on the Forum, how do I get to the JK section?

Sorry, stupid me, I just found it. I'm still having trouble navigating around these computers. Being 73 and only having a computer for 4 years still so much I don't know or understand.

Not all the 4 dr, hard top JK owners are soccer moms! Sometimes it does come down to practicallity. My dogs won't fit in a 2 dr, also seeing that a 3 month old puppy left unattended (can't watch the pup and the road) can chew through a seatbelt in 2.5 seconds, the soft top could be in danger.

I have seen a color match hard top (not mine) and personally don't like them. They look like they will be easy to chip the paint during removal and makes them look like a Hummer, land rover, etc. IMO Very glad I got the black top!

Flame me all day, but I like them.

I also prefer to run with a hard top. I live in Cleveland. Not a suburb of Cleveland, literally in Cleveland. My jeeps not safe with the soft top on. Slit the windows, crawl in, the Jeep is gone.

I'm pretty sure my dog could easily chew threw the hardtop just as easily as the soft top but he's 100lbs+ and over a year old. At 3 months I don't think the puppy teeth are really that capable. but I agree the hard top and unlimited space is more practical for us dog owners. Might I suggest cargo netting over the top for running topless in the summer though Once they learn not to chew they are pretty good about waiting in the vehicle for you anyways.

I didn't like the mango colour matched hard tops until I saw it in person, then I was a believer, but I still wouldn't pay extra for it, but it does look good. Then again the black hard top looks great too IMHO

Thanks for the suggestions, allow me to explain. I raise Irish Wolfhounds, a giant breed sighthound. At 3 months the pups are 40-60 lbs and the puppy teeth are quite sharp and very capable of massive destruction. (I feed a raw diet and pups are weaned on chicken necks and wings, bone and all) At 6 months the pups are 100+ lbs and still very much a puppy. Full grown the males can easily reach 200lbs, females 150+. They stand 36"+ at the shoulder (add another foot for the top of the head). I can fit 2 dogs fairly comfortably into the back of my JK with the seats down (hence the reason for the 4 door) and only if it is a short trip. The pup in my avatar picture is around 9 months and won't stop growing until 2 1/2 years or so. Wolfhounds are extremely intelligent, yet extremely difficult to train. Very, very independent thinkers. They are not the dog for everyone, but I wouldn't be without them.
Getting back to the thread, I have yet to see a color match hardtop I like. The black wasn't bad, just doesn't look to have the durability.

It's way too much of one color for me. I like the contrast it makes it look bigger and not like a giant lunch box.

You have the original color matched top though. Black on black . And personally I think it depends on the color of the jeep if it looks good or not.

I like the painted tops. Personally I have the black hard top...but I have a black Jeep. To each their own...don't look down on others for their choice of Jeep and don't care if they are "soccer moms". It keeps the company solvent so they can continue to make the jeeps we all like. ;-)

And soccer moms do have husbands with testosterome waiting to emerge.....Like my aunt. She got a new JKU just for the room to be good in the snow and have the top off in summer. Does not want to wheel it one bit. Me and my uncle went for a ride to the store then we pass the trail on the way and he goes "don't tell your aunt about this. This is our little secret." We wheeled the snot out of that thing brought it to the car wash after and my aunt was happy and suprised she had a shiney jeep. True story

Ha! That made my day.

Probably made the Jeep's day, too.
